I think I'm going to wait till the end of the year then announce a 12 days of Christmas style countdown of my favourite songs and records for the year. I have the Of Monsters And Men record My Head Is An Animal of those listed though and it's pretty decent, Dirty Paws is a great song.

10. Shelter by Birdy
I love The XX and their version is pretty awesome, but Birdy's version is fantastic. There is so much emotion in her voice, especially for a 15 year old. I see she has quite a few hits on the youtube, but from where they are coming from, i don't know. no one on this side of the ocean knows who she is. Maybe if more people knew about her, they'de be asking 'adele who?'

9. Titanium by David Guetta
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRfuAukYTKg
my go to workout song at the moment, it gets me pumped and going. love Sia's voice in this. The video is pretty cool too
8. Skinny Love by Bon Iver
i know this song is a few years old, but i didn't know about it or the band till his grammy win in february. Love the soul in his voice and the music is just amazing. he seems a bit pretentious, but that doesn't make me enjoy his music any less.

7. Beggar In the Morning by The Barr Brothers
Love this song, it's got a folkish country lean to it. I love the lyrics, so poetic and flows so well.

6. Never Let Me Go by Florence + The Machine
Florence Welsh's voice is so powerful, almost every song on Ceremonials is pretty good, but there is something about this song that stands out for me.
5. Talk A Walk by Passion Pit
another catchy engaging tune that i can't get out of my head every time i hear it. its uplifting and hopeful and it makes me happy every time i hear it.

3. Youth by Foxes
love this song, its so haunting and desperate, can't get tired of it
2. Somebody That I used To Know by Gotye
It's being played to death right now, but i loved it the first time i heard it before it took off and i still love it.
1. Levels by Avicii
love this song, gets me up and dancing, and always just puts me in a good mood. Hate the awful sampling flo rida did with it though.

I like the folkier side of your picks, especially Hallelujah and the Barr Brothers. I think I'll try to work Beggar In The Morning into the DRR playlist. I've playing Of Monsters And Men for a while now, but that's not my favourite track of theirs. I kinda liked the Birdy too, but I'd have to give it a few more listens to see if it sticks with me. And what is this obscure Gotye track of which you speak?
Re: top 10 of 2012
I too just learned of several of these this year - of these Of Monsters and Men is my fav, but I also enjoy me some Florence and DeadMau5 and Levels is always a fun listen. Have you heard of Givers ? They kinda vibe with the sound you have going on here. I discovered them actually late last year when they opened for another band I went to see. And then all of a sudden I hear their songs in the most random places... like a kindle commercial.
These are their more well known songs:

you haven't asked from what i can recall. I just love the show, grew up on it, and she is a personal inspiration.
Re: top 10 of 2012
Nice - I am also a big fan both of the show and of her.
