Cool. Do we just randomly post here, or is there a system in place?Buscemi wrote:Let's shoot for a Christmas start, where our first segment will be an end of the year recap with everyone selecting a title.

Re: A New Kind of Movie Club
Ok so let me get this straight, because I'm French and slow (but you already knew that right ?).
For the first edition, we all pick on the same week one film that we consider an underrated film of 2012 ?
But then from January, it's one person each week, is that it, with no particular theme ?

Yes (though some weeks would have two people, due to the six a month format). Think of the Christmas edition as the pilot episode. The long version that explains everything. Then in January, we adjust to the normal setup.
As for the special editions, I have decided that one of them will be held on Christmas. I'm still trying to decide when to do the others (I'm thinking March, June and September).

Re: A New Kind of Movie Club
My only concern about this is that it's inevitable that the list is going to be overwhelming. Most of us (with the exception of Boosch and Chien) only get to see one or two films a week and having 6 a month, every month, is simply going to mean less as it progresses.
I honestly think one pick a month is enough to make each pick actually mean something. Then you actually might get people watching them.

Re: A New Kind of Movie Club
Well, I want to give everyone a shot at doing their own list. With one a month, that basically means that each person only gets to pick one movie while everyone else is going to fight over the second one. If you aren't one of those people, it's basically a case of "you have one pick so don't fuck it up".
Besides, you'll probably have seen much of what we pick anyway so you won't have to watch every movie after we picked it. But still, remember what you can when we discuss it.

Re: A New Kind of Movie Club
I think 6 movies a month, on top of what we would already watch on our own, seems like a lot. Especially if some of these films are harder to come by - I mean, if they're not on Netflix and not released within the last year or so (to get it from Redbox), how will we watch it?
Let's say someone picks The Tree of Life, which isn't streaming on Netflix or in Redbox, I don't want to buy it for $15 from a store just to watch it. And if I don't like it, I'm out of my money.

Re: A New Kind of Movie Club
As I've mentioned before, there are no time limits. I'm trying to make this as user-friendly as possible and everyone can do their share. If you want fewer ones, you can pass to a member who has the spare time.
As for The Tree of Life, it should be on cable now (assuming that you have HBO or Cinemax) so you wouldn't need to pay that much.

Re: A New Kind of Movie Club
I know where you're coming from, Boussh, but I honestly believe that with six a month movies will be passed over and forgotten about. Maybe a compromise of 2 or 3 movies a month would be better, so that everyone can truly have the time to search out each film without the inclination to leave a movie or two. Still, I'm looking forward to what everyone has to offer.

Re: A New Kind of Movie Club
How about this compromise: everyone picks 6 per year with the remaining four weeks devoted to expanded editions and then we see what happens.
