Re: Rate That Movie!
Canonball!
Havent seen Funny People, but seems like i have to now
Anyway, im a bit behind but i went to bali recently and brought back a bunch of movies to Perth. Picked up a couple of cool TV series too, like Arrested Development (awesome!), Weeds, The Pretender (anyone remember this?), Extras, and Looney Tunes.
But what ive watched:
Ponyo 7.5/10
Great movie, the first half hour is brilliant
Paranormal Activity 5.5/10
What the hell do i make of this, bousch, SS, geez? Its weird but is it real?
The Invention of Lying 6.5/10
I thought this movie had some potential but it failed at the Box office, Ricky G has gotta get a $100M+ movie soon
District 9 8.5/10
Wow, this was impressive, will it get a sequel? Or will the sequel ruin the first? Sowth Efrika mete, Blood Diamond, now this, i reckon people should make more films in South Africa.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince 6/10
This one was totally meh, i hope they can make the The Deathly Hallows better....way better. A Disapointment, but was the book all that good? Speaking of books has anyone read anything from Matthew Reilly??
2012 5/10
I just didn't buy into any of it, Arks? come on! Good effects though
Inglorious Basterds 9/10
Unbelievable! Tarantino is a bloody legend. So much dialogue but so good, i really liked the scene in the bar, and hans lander, what a character!
Family Guy Season 8 9/10
Awesome
I'll remember some more later, ciao!

Paranormal is not real, just trick to make filmgoers think it is so its more scary. Its just a film like any other, only made with intentionally shitty quality, much like Blair With.

Re: Rate That Movie!
HBP is a filler book, mostly existing only to set up Deathly Hallows. They made it even worse by taking out the battle at the end between Dumbledore's Army and the Death Eaters, because they thought it was too similar to the huge Castle Battle at the end of Deathly Hallows.

Extras is something special. Highlights are the Orlando Bloom episode and the Daniel Radcliffe ep. Such good sports to mock themselves, and so funny.Ron Burgundy wrote: ....Anyway, im a bit behind but i went to bali recently and brought back a bunch of movies to Perth. Awesome! Extras sounds like tha shizzz...ill stop that now
And yeah, i thought HP6 was crap, and yes they definately should have included that last battle, if they only had of thought of the profits it could have made, that scene alone im talkin bout.
Thanks for clearing that up geez, i had a feeling it couldn't be real, but my only question is this: why did they 'dedicate' it to the couple? like they actually died, very misleading...bastards

I'm not planning on watching it, but thought someone might want to know that The Young Victoria is uploaded on YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZMNMX3j ... 4&index=87
That's the first of 13 parts and the entire film seems to be on there.
It won't be out in theaters until December 18th.

That's what happens when your film is widely available in Europe but impossible to find in North America.

Precious 5/10
To be honest, there's little in this movie that makes it beyond one of those weepy TV movies.
The only thing that does attempt to elevate it is the misguided direction. At times the director tries to be Amelie, using quirky visuals to express Precious's desperate dreams of escape, but the visuals aren't particularly impressive, they grow deeply repetitive, and to be honest they take away from the power of the gritty drama.
The performances are strong, and I wouldn't be surprised to see 2 or 3 nominations come next February. But even though there was dramatic power in the harsher and more real moments, the key scenes (when Mrs Rain reacts to Precious's outburst, the confrontation with the mother) were so poorly scripted that the moment was ruined.

Re: Rate That Movie!
Lee Daniels seems to me like a one-trick pony (after all, this was the same guy who did Shadowboxer). I wouldn't be surprised if further films proved that the film was a success not because of him, but because of the cast that he got with his deep pockets.
Apparently, his next film will be an adaptation of Miss Saigon. If this isn't a self-funded project (like Shadowboxer and Precious were), expect him to be replaced during production.
And last, here's a fun fact: Helen Mirren was originally set to play the Mariah Carey role. However, she had a scheduling conflict (she was also filming State Of Play at the time) and had to pull out.

I know nothing about Lee Daniels, but I have a feeling that with all the awards Precious is going to win/has already won, he's not going to get canned on his next picture.

He didn't get the cast with deep pockets. As a matter of fact, the only actors with some sembelance of an acting career in Precious is Monique and Paula Patton. And I'm sure their salaries aren't very high, I'd be surprised if either commands $1M per movie.
The book got most of the others on board, and since they all have little to no acting experience (Lenny Kravitz, Sherri Shepherd, Gabby Sidibe, Mariah Carey, all the girls in Precious' class), I'm sure they were paid relatively little.

Ninja Assassin 7/10
My god this film has one of the worst plotlines ever and the dialogue is beyond corny. Thankfully this film had very solid action sequences. Very over-top and the plot/acting/dialogue is almost so bad that it kills the whole movie but thankfully it doesn't.

The Blind Side - 9/10
Great film. Had some great moments, from most of the things SJ says to when Kathy Bates talks about Tennessee's field.
I think this is the kind of mid-level movie that makes hundreds of millions of dollars and also gets love from the Oscars (Sandra Bullock will probably be the only nod though) that Hollywood hasn't made much of since the mid-90s. An overall crowd pleaser.
Should have a lot of legs throughout January.

Fantastic Mr. Fox ***.5/****
This movie deserves a bigger audience than it is getting. Wes Anderson (like Spike Jonze with Where The Wild Things Are) makes a successful transition to family films with this adaptation of Roald Dahl's story and has a great cast of characters in the process. Anderson also respects his audience as he chooses not to dumb down his characters but instead creates characters that everyone can enjoy. The animation is beautiful, the script has some great one-liners and the cast is well-assembled. The perfect way to finish off your Thanksgiving.

Re: Rate That Movie!
2012 - 8/10 This movie was massive. I enjoyed it, although it was basically Day After Tomorrow times 6.
