Re: Awards 2018
Has anyone here actually seen Roma? It was on Netflix exclusively, right?
Happy 60th birthday Jet Li! (4/26/23)
Re: Awards 2018
Yep, with a small theatrical run in the US
Re: Awards 2018
I watched Roma last week. I thought it was one of the best of the year and would really only have been happy with it or The Favourite winning. I believe if another studio release it it would have won.Shrykespeare wrote:Has anyone here actually seen Roma? It was on Netflix exclusively, right?
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.

Re: Awards 2018
Roma was without question one of the most painful viewing experiences I've ever had. Despite the attempts to frame it as a story about motherhood and the bond between two women, it came off of as more of a hollow, masturbatory "look at me, I'm an important filmmaker" exercise for Cuaron.

I really liked Roma, but it's definitely not one for everyone.
It's not destroying. It's making something new.

As someone who loves arthouse cinema, I actually agree more with Tranny's thoughts than the majority of critics.transformers2 wrote:Roma was without question one of the most painful viewing experiences I've ever had. I consider myself more of a cult film weirdo than an arthouse aficionado, but I also thought Roma was as dull as the dishwater used to mop the floor for 20 minutes in the opening credits.
Re: Awards 2018
I think it helps to see it in a theater - the film feels much more immersive on a larger screen.
