I've always thought it was strange that they could run the Purge trailers as green-band considering how violent they are.
Eh, that shit has been happening since at the very last when I started seeing more "adult" movies 18-19 years ago. They're technically approved for all appropriate audiences, so theater management are going to put trailers for crazy violent/gory movies on PG-13 titles if they want to. However, I will say there there were a few instances when I was younger where I got freaked the fuck out from a horror trailer showing up in front of something that it arguably shouldn't have (biggest example would be the trailer for Slither appearing in front of Date Movie).
To be completely honest, seeing trailers for kid's titles pop up on R-rated movies has always confused me more. It obliviously happens a lot less than a hard R trailer showing up on a PG-13 movie, but it's never not weird when it does.
I remember thinking the trailer for The Revanant shouldn't have been shown before Joy, even though they probably appealed to similar audiences.
I do remember being very young and not wanting to see the Twilight trailer because I thought it was a horror movie (some would argue it is, but not the kind I was thinking.
It's not destroying. It's making something new.
