The director's last foray into horror didn't do much business. This might just be a case of a studio allowing a director to do a prestige project if they do a more mainstream one as well.

Just saw this trailer today. It feels like the director mashed together Near Dark and Let Me In and decided neither film was 80's enough.
Also, I'm amazed A24 didn't make this.
