Neon has scooped up the North American rights to Perfect Days. Way to tip the Palm d'or winner a few days early guys ;)

I'd bet on The Zone of Interest winning. 98 on Metacritic and it's got the A24 machine backing it.

The Zone of Interest does seem like the favorite based on the buzz, but the Cannes jury has gone against the critical consensus plenty of times.

Given who the head of the jury is, I can see Zone of Interest winning. The todd Kaynes one should pick up an award or two though

I'm a little late with how things have been received but just as I predicted, The Idol has been the flop of Cannes. 24 on Metacritic at the moment.

Funny how A24 will more than likely have both the best reviewed title and the worst.

Cannes Un Certain Regard Winners:
Un Certain Regard Prize: How to Have Sex by Molly Manning Walker
Un Certain Regard Jury Prize: Hounds by Kamal Lazraq
Un Certain Regard Best Director: Asmae El Moudir, The Mother of All Lies
Un Certain Regard Freedom Prize: Goodbye Julia by Mohamed Kordofani
Un Certain Regard Ensemble Prize: The Burtil Flower
Un Certain Regard New Voice Prize: Omen by Baloji Tshiani

Also, La chimera could prove to be a late contender for the Palm d'or. The reviews have been outstanding and it got a 9-minute standing ovation at its premiere today.

The Idol also received a long standing ovation. And then became one of the worst-reviwed projects in the history of Cannes.

That said, Cannes loves Rorwacher and the reviews have been great, so it's a contender. It'll probably win a secondary award, like that Grand Prix or Best Director.

Not to say that standing ovation length has any meaningful correlation with project quality (it doesn't at all), but didn't The Idol just get a 5-minute one-which is basically the European Film Festival equivalent of "thanks for coming"?

Standing ovations don't mean anything. I don't understand why it's become the subject of articles.
I'm putting my money on the Glazer or the Triet film for the Palme.

Sounds like my issue with when a book gets mentioned as being a New York Times bestseller. It's not prestige. It just means your book sold a lot of copies.

And it's Triet who wins the top prize. Very excited to watch Anatomy of a Fall later in the year.
