It shows you how few movies came out this year when Music manages to get several nominations. The few reviews out there have trashed this one (and can Sia pick a film project that's actually good?).

Think it's more likely that Music's nominees are just another case of the Hollywood Foreign Press favoring musicals in the musical/comedy category. The Greatest Showman and Mary Poppins Returns have also received multiple noms in recent years despite the lack of awards-caliber acclaim they received (although unlike those titles, Music likely won't receive any song or costume design-related nominees at the Oscars).

Those Music nominations are looking even sillier now. 25 on Metacritic and dropping. Also, there's the whole controversy with the autism community over it.

I have to imagine Sia bought those nominations.

Figured its more appropriate to post this here than make a new thread, but what's the status of the Fantaverse awards this year? The major awards shows just started and most of us have access to nearly all of the eligible titles at this point, so we should probably start the process before too long.

The Oscar nominations came out today. How the hell did Mank get ten nominations?

Watch it be this year's The Irishman and get completely shut out once the ceremony comes.

Meanwhile, the Razzie nominees also came out. Music was nominated for Worst Picture, once again suggesting that those Golden Globe nominations were bought. Meanwhile, did anyone else know that the My Pillow guy made a far-right wing conspiracy theory movie?

It probably will. Kind of figured Amanda Seyfried was the favorite to win Best Supporting Actress prior to the start of awards season and even though the category seems to be a bit up for grabs still even after Maria Bakalova's win at the Critics Choice awards, I doubt she'll end up winning unless the tide ends up turning at the SAG Awards and BAFTA's. And yes, I was sadly aware that the MyPillow guy put out a conspiracy film about the election results. Desus & Mero and John Oliver each did segments on it that were very funny.

I'd bet on Olivia Colman winning again. The Father has had a much better reception than either Borat or Mank and it's a more recent release, leading it to be fresher on voters' minds.

I don't know, Bakalova is a very unlikely Hollywood underdog story and what she did in Borat with minimal prior acting experience was pretty incredible. She's going to be tough to beat-particularly if she locks up the SAG award.

The Academy is too stiff to give an Oscar to a Borat sequel. Also, they seemed to want to ignore anything COVID-related (notice that 76 Days was snubbed in the Best Documentary Feature category).

Also, if they were interested in giving publicity to young, first-time actors, they would have nominated Alan Kim for Best Supporting Actor.

The QAnon movie and Music more or less swept the Razzies, just as I expected.

I wonder if this is the last we'll hear of the My Pillow guy and Sia for a while (though I'm sure we'll get a Tiger King-like documentary on the former).

In a bit of a postmortem, it looks like the most recent Golden Globes could be the last. NBC has dropped the HFPA as one of their clients due to their lack of diversity and the organization has been bleeding money in recent months.

The Hollywood Foreign Press really is just a stunningly inept organization. All they needed to do was establish/meet some very basic diversity guidelines and now that they've failed to do so, they're on the brink of extinction. Clearly they won't be missed much since their ceremony has become increasingly less relevant in recent years, but watching them sabotage themselves is just mind-blowing.
