On to another Best Picture nominee featurette, courtesy of Ron Burgundy.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Mr Tarantino's 9th film, his penultimate feature (i bloody well hope not!).
Leo gives a masterful performance, Brad Pitt is the sidekick, but only the coolest one ever.
Theres cameos, theres lethal weapons, theres new blood and old- this is what (some) people pay to see.
Every act is wildly different and yet the tone is cordial, so many magnificent shots.
Its said the movie is self indulgent, do i care?
Don't forget about the movie within a movie, within a movieverse.
And then there's that ending, that only Tarantino himself could come up with, the ultimate payload.
Its stuff like this that gives me hope that cinema will remain relevant, kudos QT

Time for another Best Picture featurette, courtesy of Chien.

Parasite

I fell into Korean cinema almost 20 years ago. It was a vast, uncertain cinematographic territory to explore, with all those strange names, bizarre atmospheres, powerful stories. I fell in love with it almost instantly. Bong Joon-ho was one of the very first South Korean filmmakers I identified back then. Memories of Murder and The Host are two of the best films I’ve ever watched in my life. But I wasn’t such a fan of Snowpiercer and Okja, so I was craving for a comeback to Korean cinema for Bong. That was Parasite.

What is there to say about Parasite that hasn’t been said already, having won the Palme d’Or at Cannes, the very first time for a Korean film, and then all those Oscars, including Best Film, while no foreign language film had ever won it, and no Korean film had ever gotten a single nomination. The stars aligned on Bong, but sometimes, sometimes, when a film that is perfectly written, with great characters, breathtaking suspense, powerful message, and is directed with such a sense of frame, with such care to very little detail, each word spoken, each camera angle, each color on screen, well, sometimes, when that happens, each and every one of us realize how cinema can be such a funny, emotional, powerful art form.

There is everything in Parasite a film should be. Acting at its greatest. A view on the world, and on everything that separates people, or holds them together. A singular way of mixing humour and tragedy.

There’s no doubt, only a few months after it was born, that Parasite will long be regarded as one of the greatest film achievements of all time. And rightfully so.

A very good set of winners up until now, almost all my votes.
Taylor Russell is an amazing young actress. I have reservations about "Waves", the film has problems, but Russell absolutely shines in it.

The lighthouse best score isn't my favorite though, I hated the film, although the music has nothing to do with it.
