SUPER (AND REGULAR) JANUARY LEAGUES ARE NOW OPEN!!!!

Post by Shrykespeare »

Guys,

It's time.

First, the bad news...

It looks like the ability that our Italian friends promised us, to have our own game, where we could make our own prices and choose our own movies, will not happen this time around. (Well, it still may, but I was told that it would be up a week ago, and have had nary a word since.)

So here's the deal. I have created the leagues for the new Super League tournaments as well as both Regulars tournaments. I have joined all of these leagues, which seem to be working this time. They are all Public leagues this time, since I want to encourage everyone to join without the hassle of sending out passwords, but rest assured, all future rounds will be Private.

Here are the EXACT titles of the leagues for you to join:

Super League Ult FY Round One
Super League Ult HY Round One
Super League BO FY Round One
Super League BO HY Round One
Regulars Ultimate League - Dodgeball
Regulars Box Office League - Grosse Pointe Blank

(Ignore the two leagues at the very bottom of the Public Leagues page, there's something wrong with them.)

Once again, here is the link to the site:

http://www.provolona.com/mmgmogul/indexe.php

I am sorry that our plans haven't come to complete fruition as quickly or as smoothly as planned. But it would seem that by doing it this way, the worst thing that will come of this is that we will have to abide by the Italian team's selection of films - as well as their prices - this time around. Hopefully by February, this little wrinkle will be ironed out.

In the meantime, I want all of you to join one or all of these leagues. Remember that quirky little PTA rule that the Italians have in place - namely, that the only films considered for PTA on a season's opening week are the films that actually opened that week. Many Fantaversians don't agree with this rule, but again, it is one that we must grin and bear for the time being.

It was inevitable that there would be one or two hiccups along the way. I, for one, am still just ecstatic to have a game in place that I don't have to maintain 24/7.

Let the games begin! (Again)

Oh, and by the way, it looks like not all the relevant information has been inputted. There are a few titles that currently have a price tag of $0 (The Bounty, Hot Tub Time Machine), and there are a few titles conspicuously missing (like How to Train Your Dragon). So though you can enter the league, you may need to do some tweaking in future weeks.

Additionally, it looks like there is currently no differentiation between Ultimate and Box Office prices. For the moment, it would seem that the best thing to do is simply join the league, and wait until just before the start date before you actually pick a lineup. Hopefully the time period between now and then will allow the Italians to get their ducks in a row.

I am disappointed to no end about the new league. No difference in prices, no price adjusting for new rounds (seriously, the prices are the exact same as last month) and Alice In Wonderland isn't even in the game. It feels as if no effort was put into the pricing.
Everything on this post is strictly the opinion and only the opinion of Buscemi.

The reason I want people to join right now is so that it will kind of force the Italians' hand to get moving. This is why I am encouraging people to sign up but not actually pick a lineup right now.

ETA: And now it would seem that the site isn't working at all (for me, anyway). Good. This is something they'll HAVE to fix.

Site works fine at the moment, but I too am disappointed in the pricing, and I'm hoping that it's a transitionary phase of just getting the new leagues up. I mean $5 for Green Zone just doesn't make any sense at all

Got an e-mail back from Donnie today, who says:

"Tech-guys have said yes. They are working on the game today and, hopefully, today (late) or tomorrow, you may put your prices.
Prices scheme for Ultimate and Boxoffice and to make different prices from december leagues is the big work that our tech-guys are making. So, we are aware and we are trying to make everything on schedule.

The problem concerning Alice and How to train your Dragon is known and we are working to resolve it. Movies with price set at zero are not a problem: simply, we haven't yet inserted our prices. If the system will work today, you may insert your prices for them. Otherwise, we'll insert our.
Ok for the email to fantaversians, maybe we must move all players in new leagues (with the same names, don't worry) or maybe not, I don't know.
But, hopefully, we'll do everything.

Sorry for my silence, but I was really without news about updates."

So, that's terrific news.

We are working, so the website may be offline temporarily. We will do our best, and we hope to do everything in time for superleagues. But I think that we will not end with much advance respect to 8 January.
Shryke, a tip: maybe you may spread your prices here, so that players can begin to get an idea of possible strategies. They will not have much time to decide.
Meanwhile, Alice and How to Train your Dragon are in.

Ah, the prices that you see now aren't our pricing list: they are automatically setted by the system when a movie is inserted. If, unfortunately, we can't finish all updates in time for the 8 January, our pricing list will be (probably) this:

Youth in Revolt 5
Daybreakers 7
Crazy on the Outside 4
Leap Year 3
The Book of Eli 16
The Spy Next Door 7
Legion 8
Extraordinary Measures 9
Tooth Fairy 8
Edge of Darkness 15
When in Rome 10
Wonderful world 3
Waiting for Armageddon 2
Off and running 2
Saint John of Las Vegas 4
The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers 4
From Paris with Love 6
Dear John 4
I Love You Phillip Morris 8
District B13: Ultimatum 3
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief 18
Remember Me 6
Valentine's Day 15
The Wolfman 17
Un prophète 5
Shutter Island 24
Cop Out 15
The Crazies 6
Prodigal Sons 3
Alice in Wonderland 30
Brooklyn's Finest 12
Remember Me 7
Our family wedding 7
Green Zone 14
She's Out of My League 5
Mother 3
Tales from the script 3
Greenberg 8
The Bounty Hunter 7
Hot tub time machine 6
Season of the witch 7
Last Night 8
The runaways 5
Clash of the titans 12
How to train your dragon 13
The eclipse 2
Dancing across borders 2

One problem at a time.

wow, the prices remind me of the October-December period. Not all that many big expensive movies coming out. I guess that will change with the april-june movies though, when all the blockbusters start coming out

Yep. Still there's always some that end up vastly overpriced and some that are vastly underpriced. Last year there was Paul Blart and Taken, this year there should be others.
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.
