The ReelSociety of Film Critics Awards 2009

Post by SuperShaan »

Hi all, Happy New Year, awards season is about to get under way so I thought it would be cool to bring back our own awards show:

The ReelSociety of Film Critics Awards 2009

The following awards will be presented:

Best Picture
Best Director
Best Actor in a Leading Role
Best Actress in a Leading Role
Best Actor in a Supporting Role
Best Actress in a Supporting
Best Foreign Language Film
Best Cast
Best Screenplay
Breakthrough Performance
Best Animated Picture

Voting
The voting structure is the same as before:

1st round of voting: everyone nominates a maximum of 5 in each category. This will produce the nominees.

2nd round of voting: everyone votes for 2 nominees per category. This will decide the winners.

Simple enough, I hope!

Schedule

Jan 25th – Feb 8th – 1st round of voting
Nominees Announced Feb 12th
Feb 12th – Feb 26th – 2nd round of voting
Awards Show March 5th

For this to work as always we need a committee of set voters, so please register your interest on this thread, and I will add you as a member.

I like it. But can we add "Best Animated Picture" to the list? There were a lot of fantastic animated films this year: Up, MvA, 9, Cloudy, Terra and Ice Age 3 (these are not nominees, just examples).

I'm in. I dont mind the best animated feature category, no one has anything against nominating an animated film for best picture though right?

I'll of course do it. I didn't have access to the net at this time last year and I wasn't here yet the year before, so I finally get to do it. I'm glad that its not something rushed so that I can try to watch all the films.

Was there also another thing that was for players of our game and possibly some wacky catagories (like player of the year or worst film of the year or best actor in a horrible film or something?) or am I dreaming? If not, I propose one. But am in for this no matter what...

I am definitely in of course. Glad we have some more time to catch up on what I missed this year.

I have a lot to catch up on during the next month, but I'm in.

I strongly suggest to everybody who hasn't seen The Road, Moon, or The Fantastic Mr. Fox: track these movies down and WATCH 'em!

You guys must also see Miyazaki's Ponyo. The Academy will probably snub it but it's one of the year's best animated films.

I'm down. Though, while I agree with NSpan's take on Moon, and have not yet seen Fox, i disagree on the Road. I just honestly thought it was boring as shit.

I'd like to see The Road get a Best Original Score nomination at the Oscars. The ironic use of piano went well with the images of a post-apocalyptic South.

Edit: I'm in also. Just like last year.
