The Brutalist should be able to attract a US distributor in short order as it earned widespread raves at its premiere at Venice today.
Over at Telluride, the big winners in terms of premieres appear to be Conclave, Nickel Boys and Saturday Night on the film front and Ralph Fiennes, Danielle Deadwyler and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor on the acting front.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread
Saturday Night has a 65 on Metacritic. Not that impressive and it more than likely skews too old for that 18-49 crowd the studios love so much to get box office results.
At the moment, it's looking more like Dumb Money than the next great show business movie that does well at the awards shows.
As for The Brutalist, the reviews are great (87 on Metacritic so far) but I still can't see a major studio releasing it as is. If my guess of Netflix doesn't get it, it could end up with a major independent like A24 or Neon or even Janus Films, who has no qualms about releasing films with intermissions (their reissue of Seven Samurai actually had a longer intermission than the original 1954 release).

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread
Here will have its world premiere at AFI Fest on October 25th.
On the acquisition front, Sony Classics has picked up Jane Austen Wrecked My Life in North America, Latin America, The Middle East and Eastern Europe and Roadside and Grindstone took the US rights to Riff Raff ahead of their premieres at Toronto later this week.
Lastly, Queer debuted to mostly positive but somewhat polarized reactions in Venice today. The performances from Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey, production design and cinematography all earned high praise.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread
73 on Metacritic suggests the film is merely good instead of great. It probably won't stop A24 from doing a big awards campaign for it, though.

Joker 2 looks like a bust, based on early reviews.

While the first wasn't quite a critical darling, it got early raves out of Venice and even won the Golden Lion, so mixed reviews for this right out the gate indicates that it will probably be a divisive film.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread
That or many audiences won't care outside of those that make Todd Phillips' Joker part of their persona to see this one. I've been expecting Folie a Deux to make only half of the first film and this possibly confirms it won't be as successful as the first. The shock has worn off and a lot of people have become turned off from overly grim and depressing movies. In addition, I have to imagine many people will see the subtitle and think it's a French film with English subtitles instead of a film with Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread
I never thought they'd make another Wallace & Gromit movie after Peter Sallis died. It's going to be hard to hear Wallace with another voice, though the new voice actor has voiced Wallace previously in other projects.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread
I'm not supposed to say anything publicly yet, but what's said in this forum is unlikely to leave this forum, so I think it's safe to announce that my short film has been accepted into two local film festivals.
The World Premiere will be at the Parrsboro Film Festival in Nova Scotia, and it'll also be playing at the Silver Wave Film Festival in Fredericton, NB.
Getting into Silver Wave wasn't a big surprise since the organization that funded my short also runs the festival, but Parrsboro is the first festival I've gotten into where I don't know half the judging committee. And both festivals are close enough that I can travel to both of them, which will be interesting.
I had been in an 0 for 5 slump in my festival campaign, getting rejected by some bigger festivals like Halifax and Vancouver, so getting into Parrsboro was a relief when I finally got accepted. A .287 batting average makes me feel much better about the film's chances in the remaining festivals I applied to, but I've learned not to get my hopes up.

Tree fiddy?
But anyway, John, at least you got a hit. That's the best part.
