Wasn't that always a title that was going to sell internationally before domestic? As a US distributor, I'm still expecting Netflix to win out is Amazon doesn't take it as a limited release/Prime title (much like Howard's Thirteen Lives was). Hit Man got great reviews at Toronto but AGC was only able to get interest from streaming. And their theatrical track record is poor in terms of ROI outside of the surprise success of Late Night with the Devil ($9 million with almost no overhead from IFC). Even with Late Night and Hit Man, I feel studios are still going to think of them as the producers of Moonfall and various other, often low quality, flops.

Anora looks like another winner for Sean Baker. Will be curious to see if Neon sticks to the current rumored late summer release date or elects to hold it until the fall so it can play it at Telluride, Toronto, etc.

I can't see the awards voting bases being too wowed by a movie about strippers and oligarchs, especially from a director who usually makes arthouse exploitation. But Neon probably won't release it in the summer either due to their massive backlog of undated titles. They still haven't given Soderbergh's new one a date and that premiered four months ago.

It's the only film in the fest that has been getting solely positive reviews.

Even The Substance got some poor/average ones in the end (though given Gerwig is head of the jury, I could see her going for satirical body-horror).

Cannes Winners:
Palme d'Or: Anora
Grand Prix: All We Imagine as Light
Jury Prize: Emilia Perez
Best Director: Miguel Gomes, Grand Tour
Special Prize: Mohammad Rasoulof, The Seeds of a Sacred Fig
Best Actor: Jesse Plemons, Kinds of Kindness
Beat Actress: Adriana Paz, Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofian Gascon and Selena Gomez, Emilia Perez
Best Screenplay: Coralie Fargeat, The Substance
Camera d'Or: Armand
Special Mention: Mongrel
Short Film Palme d'Or: The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent
Special Mention: Bad for a Moment

Neon makes it 5 Palmes in a row and this time it's with a title they has the rights too well before the festival! Bit surprised to see Emilia Perez land one of the top 3 prizes over The Seeds of a Sacred Fig or The Substance, but that's the only real curveball in the bunch

From looking at Metacritic's Cannes recap, it looks like it was a lot of mediocrity and not much inbetween.

Variety's annual Venice speculation piece came out this morning. In addition to the previously tipped world premiere of Eden, Joker: Folie a Deux, Queer, Maria, Wolfs, I'm Still Here, Hard Truths and In the Hand of Dante are all considered likely to be in the lineup.
