Well they don't distribute anywhere outside of the US so they had to sell the int rights

True but I still don't think it was a good move if A24 wants to be the next major Hollywood studio. International and post-theatrical rights tend to be equally, if not more, important than domestic and having those rights are important for long-term success. It makes more sense than the lifestyle brand A24 has been pushing for the past few years.

Selling international rights is the norm. Because indie distribs that don't belong to a studio are not distributors outside the US. They simply cannot distribute films in foreign countries. Otherwise, every American film would be distributed in every country in the world, and that's not the case. A lot of A24 films were never distributed in France, simply because they didn't find a French distrib to buy. The company does not exist in France so they can't release a film themselves.
