The Films of 9/2
The excitement level surrounding this Labor Day weekend movie slate is so damn high that it can't be quantified by the written word!!!
National Cinema Day and the $3 tickets that come with it should provide some juice today, but the rest of the weekend should be just as slow, if not slower than last. Ahead of the release of the early weekend estimates, the #1 spot is believed to be a race between Bullet Train, the Spider-Man No Way Home re-release and Top Gun.
Next week, Barbarian, Brahmastra, the 19th After sequel and Medieval will attempt to break the box office out of its late summer/early fall funk. Be sure to pray for these soon to be doomed souls

Re: The Films of 9/2
Jaws nearly doubled Honk for Jesus on Friday. Not bad for a nearly 40 year-old film with a random 3-D post-conversion. Spider-Man also did serviceable Friday numbers, making those extra nine minutes enough of an incentive to pass on watching it at home on VOD, on Starz, or on a physical disc.
Honk for Jesus also had a dismal C- Cinemascore but this probably should have been expected for a mockumentary that criticizes Evangelicalism. It's not going to satisfy some people who only like Kirk Cameron/Pure Flix/the cult in Brazil that controls the government and the airwaves preachiness.

There isn't anyone scheduled for the 9th currently. I can write the column unless someone else is interested.
It's not destroying. It's making something new.

Re: The Films of 9/2
Is thirteen weeks the record for longest gap between #1 weekends in a film's original release?

It's got to be. The circumstances that allowed it to happen wouldn't have been feasible outside of the current landscape.

Re: The Films of 9/2
I don't know, there was a time when box-office had a very different timeline and it was easier for films to stick around longer than they can now. But it is a remarkable feat.

Re: The Films of 9/2
True, but during that time, those films would stay at the top for a prolonged period of time opposed to exit the #1 slot after 2 weeks then return there 3 months later.Chienfantome wrote: ↑September 8th, 2022, 6:54 amI don't know, there was a time when box-office had a very different timeline and it was easier for films to stick around longer than they can now.
