I may have picked Salmon in a few leagues, but not many. I passed on Footnote entirely (dammit).

John Carter may have not been a big hit in the US but it still made $70 million internationally this weekend (and had the biggest opening day ever in Russia). With action films tending to do better internationally, it has an outside shot of breaking even.

In France the numbers are very unimpressive unfortunately. It won't come across as a success. Although it should have decent legs, given how the audience cheered at the end of the film when I saw it last night.

International audiences are more forgiving on action films (for example, The Three Musketeers' foreign gross outnumbered the American gross almost 6 to 1), so it should hold decently in forthcoming weeks.

It opened to $17 million in Russia (the fourth biggest opening ever there) and hasn't opened in China or Japan (both are also big markets for action films) yet so it should have a nice total when everything's done.

A very good opening in Australia is somewhere between 8-12 million (8.4-12.6 US) - blockbuster, christmas season, and 3-5 million (3.2-5.3 US) any other time.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 holds the record for the biggest opening at $18,688,000 ($19,629,198 US).

I'm still trying to get my head around the lack of A Separation in the PTA category.

Aaaaaah, that's it. There was something weird in the PTA list, and I wondered what it was. Probably a mistake from BOM that will be soon corrected.

No, it's finally gone. Besides which, it's a December movie. It's no longer in any active league.

BTW... did anyone notice that this thread has more responses than any column I've ever written? How did that happen?! Me likey!

John Carter was a very volatile movie. In the end, I'd consider 30 million a small success, given how bad it could have been.

I expect it to perform probably quite similar to Journey 2 now, so if it can reach $90m that would be decent considering the dropping value of it over the past month or so.

But surely not worth the $26 or so it cost? It was the third most expensive movie behind Lorax and Hunger Games, which will way outperform it on all levels. The Vow cost less than half it and will fare just as well. I'm certainly glad I avoided it at all costs, even if it'll still get 9-10 T5 points.

Oh no, six, I was talking more for real-life box office, not the game. If anyone actually took it, well, shame on them. They should have known better.
