what! did someone just say that an Emma Stone movie was kind of good, ill pretend i didnt hear that. Oh yeah it did make money, i just shot myself in the foot. dammit!

and that Box Office rule, there are so many trends u cant track em, thats why the bigboys who play this game get paid, like the director of paramount. right?

Sorry. I didn't mean that The Help was kinda good, it was excellent. Rather, it was kinda dumped into the unflattering section of the lineup.

My bad.

Valhalla Rising was a brilliant film Ron. Actually it was in my Top 15 films of 2010 !
And Drive I wouldn't be surprised if Drive was brilliant too. It opens Oct. 5th in Paris. I'll rush to see it ;)

I think Donnie said that even if a movie is not used in the game, it can still take Top 5 points away from those that are in the game (because it's a fairly rare occurrence that there is a wide-release movie that is NOT in the game).

Sunday estimates:

The Lion King 3D - $29.3M
4 points - Contagion, $14.5M
3 points - Drive, $11.0M
2 points - The Help, $6.4M
1 point - Straw Dogs, $5M
I Don't Know How She Does It, $4.5M
The Debt, $2.9M
Warrior, $2.8M (10 days and still not even at $10M)
Planet of the Apes, $2.6M
Colombiana, $2.3M

PTA:
5 points - My Afternoons With Margueritte
4 points - Contagion
3 points - Drive
2 points - Restless
1 point - The Help

No word yet on The Mill and the Cross.

The low drop on Contagion is very good news for Drive's legs. Both movies have had similar word-of-mouth but the praise on Drive seems to be higher at the moment.

Sunday actuals:

Top 10:
The Lion King 3D - $30.2M
4 points - Contagion, $14.5M
3 points - Drive, $11.3M
2 points - The Help, $6.5M
1 point - Straw Dogs, $5.1M
I Don't Know How She Does It, $4.4M
The Debt, $2.9M
Warrior, $2.9M
Planet of the Apes, $2.7M
Colombiana, $2.3M

PTA (Jul/Aug):
5 points - The Mill and the Cross
4 points - My Afternoons With Margueritte
3 points - Horrible Bosses (??)
2 points - Contagion
1 points - Drive

I don't know if the theater count on Horrible Bosses is correct or not, but BOM has it making $445K in 44 theaters. If this is an error and it is corrected, move Contagion and Drive up 1 slot and give Restless one point.

PTA (Sept):
5 points - The Mill and the Cross
4 points - My Afternoons With Margueritte
3 points - Contagion
2 points - Drive
1 point - Restless

Horrible Bosses is an error. It added some second-run houses this week and should be updated accordingly.

The Lion King would have been a great movie for your slate, I don't think anyone anticipated it doing THAT well. Maybe it's something we should consider in future leagues, as it's messed up the point system for this weekend and left a number of people confused. Disappointed Margueritte didn't bring home 5 points, I hoped the French factor and the generally unenthusiastic response to The Mill and Cross at the NZ Film Festival would have helped it win. 4 points is good nevertheless. I guess if its not wrong, Horrible Bosses has done so well due to the huge drop in theatres last weekend, still shocking though. Most disappointed in Drive though, it's going to bring in very few points in all departments now, apparently. That's this and Warrior both under performing for me despite great WOM.

The Mill and the Cross had Rutger Hauer's coolness on its side. And the Cohen Media Group seems like it will be like Music Box with a fair number of under the radar films doing well (they just picked up the Rebecca Hall film The Awakening and Luc Besson's The Lady in the US).

It's going ok. For $6 I hoped for $30m+ to keep my slate competitive with a 5x multiple, but I guess if it finishes out a little below that then I can deal with that. Good holds have helped a lot.

Hopefully Marguerritte will hold well as many French movies do.

The Mill and the Cross is pulling a Future on us. The very arty film no one saw coming on the PTA front...

The Horrible Bosses typo has been corrected.

PTA (Jul/Aug):
5 points - The Mill and the Cross
4 points - My Afternoons With Margueritte
3 points - Contagion
2 points - Drive
1 point - Restless

This should be correct.
