W wrote:I'm wondering why they called Civil War a Captain America movie. They could have called it Marvel's Avengers 2.5: Civil War. It's missing only Hulk, right? And it has other heroes that will probably be future Avengers. If they had named it Avengers something, I'm thinking it'd be odds on the favorite this year.
Thor's also missing from Civil War and of course Guardians too, but yeah it's basically another Avengers. Even Ant-Man will be there, and it'll introduce Black Panther and Spider-Man. Wouldn't be surprised to see Dr Strange pop up either.

Civil War seems like something that should be multiple films. It's something that uses more characters than any Marvel film yet and is trying to introduce multiple new characters (one huge one) and bring a few more into the fold. It just seems way too big.

I think Rogue One will make 300 million, but do you really think it will do as well as Episode 7 and 8? The hype for 7 will not be matched for a long time I figure. And a stand alone story, with no characters you know and love, seems like a "regular" blockbuster to me, not a once in a decade one. My guess, lots more movies in the 300-450 range next year and no Star Wars/Jurassic World numbers. Not till 2017.
Or, I'm just screwing with you guys in lead up to the year long draft.

It's Star Wars, they have a year to market it, aren't there rumors that DARTH VADER is going to be in it? I don't think it's going to make as much as The Force Awakens, but if it's not completely terrible, it should at least eclipse 500 million just because of the Star Wars brand. I don't see this as an "Avengers" situation where the combination of characters boosts sales. Force Awakens showed just how thirsty fans are for more Star Wars. I don't think that's going to die down any time soon. As soon as they start releasing marketing material, expect the buzz to go through the roof. Anyone who bets against it or anything else with Star Wars in the name is out of their right mind.

If Rouge One was going to be a regular Star Wars movie, I would agree with Geez. Everything we have heard from it has pointed to the opposite though, the budget is half of the force awakens, it's got no recognizable actors or characters, if Vader shows up it'll be like the last 2 seconds that Luke was in TFA, even if he is in it more, who is he going to have a lightsaber duel with, there aren't any jedi. Star Wars films are fantasy space adventures, from the looks of it, Rouge One is supposed to be a dark gritty war movie and if we learned anything from the billions made from The Force Awakens, it's that the fans want more of the same.

Who knows though, maybe Rogue One will be Empire Strikes Back remake...

I'm fairly certain that's Episode VIII... I fully expect Rey to train to be a Jedi, lose a hand fighting Kylo or some other Sith, and for something to happen involving Lando. Bonus points if Finn gets frozen in carbonite and someone gets stuffed inside an animal so they don't freeze to death.

"Star Wars" is gonna be written on all the posters, and appear in all the trailers, with John Williams' music. At the end of the day that's all that matters really.

Rogue One could make HALF of The Force Awakens and still be the biggest film of the year. It doesn't even have to come close.

Even without the main characters, I still think people will flock to Rogue One, just to return to that Star Wars world.
