2016 Box Office Contest - Pick the Top 20
I'm starting this year's game early to account for some potential 100m earners in Jan.
THE RULES
Each entrant must choose what they think will be the Box Office Top 20 films of the year, in the correct order. You can only choose films released in the calendar year.
Each entrant also can pick 2 "bench" films. This means that if one or two of the films chosen in their Top 20 gets moved to 2017 or beyond, the bench picks will now be activated. Make sure to order your bench films correctly (i.e. your #1 bench film will be the first picked if one Top 20 choices loses its date)
Winners will be announced by the end of January 2017, to give films that open in late December a fighting chance. The winner will be the person with the most dollars earned by then.
If any two people have the same slate of films, the tie-breaker will be based on the accuracy of order.
The closing date for entries is midnight Wednesday January 27th.
Once you post your list you cannot change it, so choose wisely.
If you want to pick a film from January or early February on your list you must submit your list by midnight of the Tuesday before that film opens. For example, if you want to include Ride Along 2 (opens Jan 15th) in your list, then you must submit your list by midnight Jan 12th. This is to avoid anyone using accurate tracking information to gain an advantage.
Good luck!

I have a hard time deciding between 6 or 7 films to fill the spots after #15. Many possibilities.

Good for you Trannytransformers2 wrote:I should probably retain my title of being the asshole that kicks things off
I shouldn't be too long in posting mine too. There's just always this fear of seeing a big one getting postponed so waiting, not for the last minute, but almost.

Thanks for starting the ball rolling, Tranny.
Like Chien I'm mulling over my last few options: 9 films for my final 7 slots. It's a tough one...

Just started compiling my list, seems really hard this year, I have 40 films that could make $150M, which was what the #20th film made last year.

I presume he means choosing Captain America over Rogue One as the film that makes the most. Certainly that's what I thought.
As for Trek 3, it's in my "contender" list for my final 7. I think it'll earn way less than the previous 2, but should still hit over the 100m mark. The question is whether I feel the others can do more.
There are a few flicks both of you picked that I have doubts about, but more on that later.

Rogue One has a shot at being #1 but it's not a given.
Re: 2016 Box Office Contest - Pick the Top 20
True, but i think it'll benefit from the "Avenger" effect, where the love of the Big Film will boost the interest in the Side Films. Of course, that will happen to Cptn America 3, which already looks like an Avengers movie, but I think the MCU has peaked outside of the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, and now it's Star Wars' cinematic universe that's on the rise.
Re: 2016 Box Office Contest - Pick the Top 20
I'm wondering why they called Civil War a Captain America movie. They could have called it Marvel's Avengers 2.5: Civil War. It's missing only Hulk, right? And it has other heroes that will probably be future Avengers. If they had named it Avengers something, I'm thinking it'd be odds on the favorite this year.
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.
