Ha! That would have been a much better excuse.

UPDATE #1

No standings this time, as it's too early, but let's look at what fared well for the first third of 2014.

Obviously, the biggest film so far was Lego, which surpassed expectations by earning over $250m so far. That's a nice start for the 11 of us who picked it. Banks and Busc are hoping something from their slate will get bumped so they can access it on their benches, while Tranny, Discostu, UDM, Jas, and W all missed out, some of which did so due to posting their entry too late.

10 of us nabbed Mr Peabody and Sherman, all convinced it would fare as well as The Croods. But the competition of Lego and The Muppets possibly affected the film's performance, which has disappointed by only earning $108m so far, and it's unlikely to hit the 110m mark. While not a disaster, there will probably be better picks.

Also not performing as well as some hoped was the 300 sequel, which was selected by Shryke, Tranny, JohnE, Discostu, and W. $105m isn't as bad as some predicted, but it certainly won't remain in the Top 20 by the end of the year. Similarly, Noah was in some ways a pleasant surprise, but it will probably not earn much more than $100m, which is reasonable for the 7 who nabbed it.

Rio 2 probably won't earn as much as the first film, though it is holding relatively well so far, and at 96m so far it's looking to break the 110m mark at the least, which should be satisfying for the 7 of us who took it.

Everyone picked up Captain America 2, which at $224m so far was most certainly a right, and obvious choice. And the 10 of us who took Divergent should be happy enough with its $139m, which is far from Hunger Games but still is a worthy choice for the 10 of us who grabbed it

Other risky picks from this third of the year didn't fare too well. JohnE took on video game adaptation Need for Speed, which has only earned $42m. The good news is that it remains unused on his bench so far. Discostu and W both picked Transcendence, which is unlikely to hit the $30m mark. And poor Empire took a risk with Bad Words, which in truth had the potential to surprise, but sadly won't make it to $10m. Sorry, dude!

And no one picked Ride Along, which closed with $134m which would have been a sweet pick.

So here comes the summer, with Spiderman 2 coming first in May (a film we all picked), followed by Neighbours (picked twice), Godzilla (14, me being one of the fools who opted out), X:men Days of Future Passed (everyone), A Million Ways to Die in the West (6), and Malificient (15).

I regret not pulling the trigger on Ride Along, and I sure hope Need For Speed stays on my bench. That one fell WAY below my expectations.

And I'll try to do an update on the Fall version once the yearly draft is over.

Looking at my slate I still feel pretty good about it. However I'm guessing that Maleficent may make just every so slightly more than the Hundred Foot Journey. I'm kinda hoping it makes more than Bad Words :)

Here's how the date change of Home has affected the game

On the relatively good side, Shryke now gets Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Surfer and myself get Tammy (which will hopefully compensate for me not picking the massive Godzilla), Empire gets Godzilla, Banks gets The Lego Movie, and Shaan gets A Million Ways to Die in the West (though that's still a wildcard).

On the not-so-good side, John E gets Need for Speed, and Tranny gets Jersey Boys.

Almost as much as me not picking either Godzilla or Guardians of the Galaxy.

With Home now gone, I guess my first bench pick is now in play. And that's cool with me. Sliding Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in might save my bacon.

Fuck, I really picked Jupiter Rising in my Top 10? What was I thinking?

Well, so far my percentages are decent. It took $134M to crack the top 20 last year, and five of my seven picks that are out either have cracked that mark or will crack it (Godzilla).

My biggest "ifs" right now besides Jupiter Rising have to be Edge of Tomorrow and Night at the Museum 3. Perhaps also 22 Jump Street. If I can end the year with 15/20, I'll be happy.

Your massive crush on Channing Tatum is really affecting your ability to play this game.
