Hey guys, just checking in. I'm down to about 180 at the time of this writing and cuts are starting to get impossibly difficult already... Also, I apologize in advance for the repetitive nature of my eventual list, I love what I love and while I am trying to get as much of a variety of musical acts that I can, I also have to display my true feelings, and there's just a handful of bands that, for me, stand above all others over the last 20 years. You'll see soon enough who i am referring to.

Three more cuts by three of my all time favorite artists.

Joe Satriani, Champagne? (2000)

Satch is my guitar god. Whether he's playing it laid-back or shredding up a storm, he's a master at his craft.

Seal, Get It Together (2003)

This was hung around my list since I started writing it. Hated to see it go.

Erasure, Sweet Surrender (2005)

IMHO, Nightbird is Eraasure's best album ever. One song from this album will be very high on my list.

SHRYKE
(Certainly not the most scary of collections, but nothing i would stamp all over)

Lenny Kravitz - Again
I like the hard rocking Lenny, the one whos gonna go my way. Bit of trivia, he
recently lost his famous Aviator sunnies and posted on Social media to try get
them back for free.
5/10

Depeche Mode - I Feel Loved
I have to agree with surfer, this is way off their best material. But i don't
dislike it.
5.5/10

Pet Shop Boys - All Over the World
I know the sound, i know the band. It just never hit a chord with me.
4.5/10

Fun - Carry On
First time i heard this. Sorry, its so generic i already dislike it.
2/10

Weezer - Africa
Im gonna have to come up with an abrieviation: FIGHT. First instanst gone heard this-
Eh, ill come up with a better one. I know the original, which is actually pretty good.
This is a nerdy cover with Weird Al, i dunno.
5/10

Dido - White Flag
You know what? I kinda like this one. I'd rather have this than some generic
elevator music.
5.5/10

Coldplay - Fix You
I was given a gift for a bday once, free tickets to a stadium Coldplay gig,
it was ok at best. That said, these guys have better songs IMO.
5.5/10

Depeche Mode - Precious
2 DM songs already??! Someone is stuck in the 80s?? Hey im sure im stuck in my
own timezone, so don't feel bad. And DM is one of my fav "older" bands
5.5/10

Seal - Amazing
Amazingly generic. He doesn't display half of the range he does in Kiss from a
Rose (good song).
2.5/10

fun. - Some Nights
Ok, firstly, what is this band named called? Fun. Fun., Fun????? Secondly, this
song is farrrrrr better than the other one you choose. I could even sing along :)
5.5/10

Barenakid Ladies - Pinch Me
Because i can't believe you picked this. Geeeezzzzus man, i will stop from
saying anything else.
1.5/10

Fall Out Boy - Immortals
I think i hate this band. Sorry.
2/10

Joe Satriani - Champagne
I kinda don't like that he doesnt turn his guitar god into a bit more.
5/10

Seal - Get it Together

SURFER
(We are gonna clash alot but then every now and then we'll hit a song together)

Django Django - Hail Bop
I've only heard their biggest hit, Default. Which is good. This one didnt hit.
4/10

Modest Mouse - I came as a rat
I didn't mind this one. And i am a bad first time listener judge.
5.5/10

Sonic Youth - The Empty Page
Another one where i've listened to the first time. Not My cup of tea.
4.5/10

Black Keys - Strange Times
Finally! I song i like! They Black Keys are so good i want to go see them live.
7/10

Priests - No Big Bang
Its very grating on the old ears. I suppose it gets better every time?
3.5/10

Grandaddy - The Crystal Lake
To answer your question: has america ever sounded so awesome? Well, im not even
american and i can tell you the answer is a simple yes.
5/10

PS: I just wanna hear what you think of my songs today (and not from what you
thought yesterday) clearly you know some songs, but i dont want any 'nice'
opinion treatment, just your honest.

The Cooper Temple Clause - Film Maker
Sorry, im only getting the grating feeling.
3/10

Courtney Barnett - Pedestrian at Best
I actually hated her when she sprang upon the scene, now not so much.
4.5/10

Speedy Ortiz - No Below
I gave Her a listen.....
2/10

Thee Oh Sees - I Come From a Mountain
This is better. I will need to listen to it more.
3.5/10

SIX
(I fkn hope we a semblance of agreeance, or it could be long ride)
The Murder Capital - For Everything
Heard only some bad live recordings. Couldn't listen to the song properly.
?/10

Danny Brown - uknowhwatimsaying
This may seem strange, but i never really listen to the lyrics, until
i like the rest of this song or the artist (before).
I have no idea what he's saying.
5/10

M.I.A - Galang
Its ok, but it doesnt rattle my head like Paper Planes.
5.5/10

U.S Girls - Sororal Feelings
Im not sure, do you like the story or the sound more?
3/10

Vampire Weekend - A Punk
Not bad at all. So far, this is the song i have heard the most.
6.5/10

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Head Will Roll
I like this band. Yeah they kinda fell off the Maps.
6.5/10

LEESTU
NOTE: self per artist rule, i like it, but i think its definately personalised
because everyone is different. Im very glad this is self imposed and also you
made it aware for everyone. I had a similar type thing going.

Car Seat Headrest - Fill in Blank
I remember liking this song when it came out
6/10

Parkay Quarts - He's Seeing Paths
Im sorry- WHAT?! This is the most played song on your Spotify in last decade?
Was it stuck on repeat or something?? Its very obtuse.
4/10

Don't Wanna Die Anymore - Smith Street Band
I hate this band. This song is not horrible. They are so abrasive.
2.5/10

The World at Large - Modest Mouse
Eh, it neither her nor there.
4/10

jERLE
(The always left field Mr J.Erle, i have no idea what to expect)
Doves - Caught By the River
Its so wholesome. Yuck
1/10

Caribou - Eli
I kinda liked this but think i'd need a lot more drugs.
4.5/10

The Mae Shi - Run to your grave
Not bad once you get into it. But Still, on the the meh side.
4.5/10

Okkervil River - Lost Coastlines
I gave this song the full listen. Its not horrible, just not in my wheelhouse.
4/10

The Dodos - Fools
Good song, almost forgot about this one.
6/10

TRANNY

Children of Bodom - Triple Corpse Hammerblow
Haha, you call this torture?
5/10

Coheed and Cambria - Gravmakers & Gunslingers
I may the one person who likes what you got
5.5/10

Every Time I Die - Wanderlust
This is not very good, but better than what ive hear so far (overall)
3.5/10

Tove Lo - My Gun
Xenophobia, tick. Good beat, tick. You're rolling Tranny!
6/10

Travis Scott - ASTROTHUNDER
Nah, not for me
4/10

CHIEN

Aaron - Seeds of Gold
Not for me
2.5/10

Izia - Trop vite
Yep, i can get into this.
6/10

De Palmas - Tomber
Ehh, not a hit for me.
3/10

The Strokes - The End Has no End
Its a good-n. Just not my fav
5.5/10

Kaleo- Vor i vaglaskogi
The language barrier is very much more real in song form than
in film. And even then, im not a fan.
5/10

Too damn hard. You'll get my top 100 here. The rest of the world is getting 150, on facebook, a day at a time.

And I still have 18 to cut to get it down to 150

Ron B - I love all your choices (except R.Kelly). I think I'm going to like your list if this is typical of your musical taste.

Getting down to it. Only got a few more cuts to go.

Here are some more of mine.

Sturgill Simpson, Mercury in Retrograde (2019)

This song only came out a few months ago, and it came SO CLOSE. Plus, it's country(ish). I generally hate all country music. ALL of it. But this song has a space-agey sound and some cool lyrics that really made me think about including it.

Shiny Toy Guns, Major Tom (Coming Home) (2009)

When a group you like does a cover of a song you love, you tend to give it a good hard listen (see Weezer's "Africa"). While I don't like this quite as much as Peter Schilling's 80s classic, I truly enjoy it. Hurt to cut it.

Carly Rae Jepsen, Call Me Maybe (2011)

So help me GOD, I can hear you all rolling your eyes from here. All I can say in my defense is that there is a 13-year-old girl inside all of us (well, maybe except for Boosh), and this song appeals to the one inside me. The hook is just so damn CATCHY (plus, CRJ is totes adorbs), it gets me every time. (If you want to leave this song off the collective Reel Society Spotify list, no hard feelings. Really.) ;)

Erasure, Let's Take One More Rocket To The Moon (2005)

Hey, not all music needs to be depressing to be good, IMHO. Erasure's up-tempo, happy synthpop rhythms have been tickling my ears for 35 years, and that's not gonna change. I've already got three of their songs on my list, though, so this one (sadly) got the ax.

SHYRKE

Sturgil Simpson - Mercury in Retrograde
It is country music, which already gets a frown but you are right, that spacey rock feel helps.
4/10

Shiny Toy Guns - Major Tom (Coming Home)
This one has shiny synths and pop lasers, i almost gave shryke his first good (6.5) song. But then i listened again it not quite there. Still, not bad at all.
6/10

Carly Rae Jepsen - Call me Maybe
Eyes rolled. Not for me.
2.5/10

Erasure - Let Take One More Rocket to the Moon
Sounds a bit like Aha - Take on Me, i like it. Well done!
6.5/10

The Great
The End Has No End by The Strokes - love The Strokes

The Very Good
Mercury In Retrograde by Sturgill Simpson - one of the better alt country artists of the last decade - this is a bit more psych/space rock blues than I am used to from him but I like this new direction - he does a great alt-country cover of In Bloom by Nirvana.
Vor í Vaglaskógi by Kaleo - first listen - this has such a sad beauty to it that it knowing what he's singing about isn't important

The Good
Limit Of Love by Boy & Bear - one of the better Boy & Bear songs
Seeds of Gold by AaRON - first listen - well written song with a nice sound
Trop Vite - by Izia - first listen - good sultry atmosphere with a few surprises that kept me interested
Starboy - The Weeknd - normally not my thing but they do it well here - and I must admit there is footage in existence of me banging this out at a karaoke bar
Champagne? by Joe Satriana - first listen - I usually enjoy his technical expertise in small doses

The Okay
Tomber by De Palmas - first listen - not overly exciting but nice and mellow
Major Tom (Coming Home) by Shiny Toy Guns - first listen - I prefer the original
Circles by Digitalism - first listen

The Not My Thing
both songs by Erasure - first listen
Shooting Stars by Bag Raiders - first listen
Get It Together by Seal - first listen - modern disco soul is not for me

The Really Not My Thing
Call Me Maybe - Carly Rae Jepsen

4/10....
Just to clarify - they were my most played artist of the decade - not song. They have seven albums of their own this decade (2 of which are my #1, and #2 albums of their relevant years) plus a collabaration album with Daniele Luppi which is excellent, and at least one EP I played a lot (which this song is from)...and I've seen them live three times now.

I've been waiting to post this until I sent my first batch of songs to Shryke as I wasn't sure until then which song it would be:-

#101 - The Final Cut

Take Me Out is a Great song, ruined by not only being in every ad from 2005-2012, but also being the theme tune for the UK dating show also called Take Me Out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyY_-kd0dLw

Oh man that sucks! Used on a show like that is probably even a worse decision than the use of a How Soon Is Now? cover for Charmed.
