Coming up from me, spanning 37 years, we have:

A 1967 song from a classic rock band.
A 1968 song from a classic rock band (not the same band).
A 1976 single from a punk rock band.
A 1985 album track from an Irish group.
A 1986 single from a well respected folk/rock singer.
A 1990 single from an English act who are one of the defining bands of their genre.
A 1996 single from a band who ride the dance/rock boundary.
A 1997 song from one of the most popular rock acts of the the last 15 years.
A 2004 song from a popular American rock band.

If that Irish group are U2, I don't think they released an album in 1985. Unless you're thinking of The Unforgettable Fire ('84). And if so, bet the song is Bad ;)

It's not U2, I've already posted the only song of theirs i really like. And I agree about The Unforgettable Fire.

Another preview: one of these 9 songs has appeared already, and apart from that one, only one of the artists has appeared on someone else's list. nope sorry, two.

As promised, here is a breakdown of my next ten songs (in order of their release, not in the order they'll appear):

A 1928 classical composition by a French composer.
A 1983 Top 10 hit by a Dutch rock band.
A 1992 song by a long-tenured English pop band.
A 1992 song by a female-led English alternative band.

A 1993 song by an English alt-rock band.
A 1994 song by an American indA ustrial rock-band (with a VERY controversial video).
A 1997 hit song by an American grunge band.

A 2001 song by a long-tenured English alternative-pop-electronic band.
A 2005 hit by an English alt-pop "video" band.
A 2006 song by a female southern-rock artist that was on the soundtrack for a popular animated movie.
I'm looking forward to these 3.

I've been meaning to ask you how you got into the Church. To own the "Starfish" album, half a world away, blows me away. It wouldn't so much nowadays with the internet and 24hour music channels, but back then over 20 years ago!? Anyway it's a great album, and have you heard much of their earlier stuff from before Starfish?

Well, I can tell you that the first one of those three listed (that you are looking forward to) is coming up at #79. (#80, obviously, was the "1992 song by a female-led English alternative band."

And no, I haven't really heard much of The Church apart from that one album. More's the pity.
Happy 60th birthday Jet Li! (4/26/23)

Shryke, I'm feeling a little lazy, so would you mind posting everyone's picks in one post like in the first thread so that I can analyse every song without having to check every page of the thread? I know plenty of petite redhead's if you need a deal sweetener...

Ha, I was about to say something very similar. I was curious as to whether our tastes would diverge or converge as we approached the Big Number ONE. In my opinion, things are slowly creeping towards a musical event horizon--where "good" means good to everybody. Not sure if we'll actually hit that point, but it seems like we're gonna get close.

Yeah, in fact I suspect that over 50% of our Top 10 choices are recognised singles, which to me suggests the definitive social nature of music appreciation. But let's wait and see

I'd definitely agree that our tastes are certainly converging a little more than our first thread, and I suspect that could also be because many of our 100-90 songs were those which have more personal attachment to us than their actual qualities as songs in themselves. Anyway, favourites of the round were:

Favourite Familiar Tracks
Led Zeppelin, Kashmir (Shryke)
The White Stripes, The Union Frover (NSpan)
Spiritualized, I Didn't Mean to Hurt You (Six)
PJ Harvey, Angelene (Six)
Radiohead, The Tourist (Six)
Foo Fighters, My Hero (Geez)
Jimi Hendrix, Voodoo Child (Slight Return) (Geez)
Soundgarden, Black Hole Sun (becs)
Nirvana, Lounge Act (transformers)
Queens of the Stone Age, Go With the Flow (transformers)

Favourite New Tracks
Thomas Dolby - Airhead (Shryke)
The Brian Jonestown Massacre, When Jokers Attack (NSpan)
Pixies, Cecelia Ann (NSpan)
Elf Power, An Old Familiar Scene (NSpan)
Frank Black, San Antonio, TX (NSpan)
Godspeed You Black Emperor, Blaise Bailey Finnegan III (Six)
Elefant, My Apology (becs)

Obviously a very good round for NSpan and Six in my own opinion, which has kinda stuck with what I originally thought would be the case. NSpan has introduced a lot of new stuff to me this time round (although to be honest they were bands I knew of but hadn't gotten round to listening to yet), while six has just reminded me of some of the great music I already own. Much better round than the last ten for me, best new tracks would be the Godspeed song and Elf Power's, I'm looking to pick up a cd of each of theirs in the near future, while my favourite familiars would be Soundgarden, White Stripes and Nirvana. Anyway roll on the next round, if they keep up the momentum I'm hoping to love many of the next round.

Glad to hear Elf Power went over so well. Forget if I mentioned it already, but I suggest starting with Back to the Web and Walking With the Beggar Boys.

Haha, btw, did anyone notice that tonight's South Park opened with "Time of the Season" by the Zombies?

Yeah, I added Back To The Web after listening to a few tracks, had some difficulty finding a cd of theirs in stores over here though, so may have to pick it up online.

Oh, and clues for my next batch:

1992 song by a band who emerged from the NYC hardcore scene in the late 80s and are led by the lead singer of one of the more popular underground rock bands of the new century.
1993 song from a band dubbed 'The New Smiths'
1989 track from leaders of the Madchester scene.
1998 track from belgian alt-rock act.
1970 track from a definitive rock band, and featured in one of the most successful rock comedy movies of last decade.
1979 track from the double album of one of the best rock bands ever.
1994 track from debut album of US rock act who have already featured a couple of times already in the countdown.
1991 track from seminal underground rock act from Kentucky.
2000 track from multinational, genre crossing rock act.

When I want to actually pay for an album, I've been going through Amazon MP3. High-quality tracks, and it's always about half the price (sometimes less) of the physical CD. Might be a US-only thing, though...
