The Comeback Trail sneaks back onto the schedule for 7/23/2021. I was convinced Netflix would go after this one.

I'm surprised they actually agreed to extend the NFL season. Some of the ideas they had in there (such as how no player can play every game for safety reasons) seemed enough to kill that idea.
The players gave it away in the last CBA for things they don't actually need. The NFLPA is the absolute weakest of the major sports because the average player cannot afford to miss a season. They need guaranteed contracts.

More theatre kid action coming this year: Netflix will release Lin-Manuel Miranda's directorial debut, Tick, Tick...Boom!, based on a story by Jonathan Larson, later in the year. I have to imagine it will be around Oscar season to try and get both Miranda and Andrew Garfield nominations.

There's got to be about 86 musicals set to come out over the next 6 months

And here I was convinced that Cats killed the musical.

New Sony dates:
Bullet Train 4/8/22
Oh Hell No (Jack Black/Ice Cube comedy from Eric Andre Show/Bad Trip director Kitao Sakurai) 6/17/22

In a move that's somewhat hard to decipher based on all the moving parts within it, STX has auctioned off the North American rights to Queenpins to Paramount+ and Showtime, but it's also apparently not completely bypassing theaters according to Deadline's reporting. As with the Gunpowder Milkshake Netflix deal, STX is keeping the rest of the international rights.

STX has been moving into being solely an acquisitions label and probably didn't have the money to properly market Queenpins (also, it just doesn't sound like a box office hit on paper). As for a theatrical run, it probably depends on if it's any good. Paramount knew Infinite was a dog and rightfully dumped it onto streaming. If it does play theatrically, it will probably use the same distribution platform Showtime's documentary offerings do.

And Bullet Train is an adaptation of a book that's been suggested to be one of the major inspirations for Speed. I have to wonder if Disney ends up planning legal action if this one ends up looking similar to Speed.

The pre-planned trilogy no one asked for, Fear Street, will hit Netflix over the first three Saturdays in July. I have no idea why anyone thought this needed to be three movies.

So that's where Sean Penn's been lately. I thought the whole incident with Lee Daniels reduced his career to writing bad novels that only his famous friends will defend.

Does Respect move?

MGM should have no problem releasing a limited title and a wide title on the same day. In fact, I highly doubt Flag Day expands wide, assuming critics end up viewing it as nothing more than a vanity project for Sean's daughter.

Meanwhile, I feel that you are way too obsessed with Respect and its box office chances, of which there are few. It's a two-and-a-half hour movie from a first-time director, with a lead who haven't been relevant in more than a decade. I expect critical word to be middling and box office to be light.

Flag Day very well might not expand wide. The wording in the Deadline piece left hinted at it, but there was no confirmation.

My best bet is that it shows up on Prime a few weeks after opening, assuming that Epix doesn't stand in the way.

The Amazon acquisition hasn't been approved yet, so I don't think that will be a possibility.
