The original Ghost in the Shell will be a filler title on IMAX for one week on September 17th. Lionsgate is releasing it, having assumed the rights previously from buying Starz.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid got rebooted again, this time as an animated movie for Disney+ that will arrive on December 3rd. I've never gotten the appeal of these movies but some people seem to love them.

After watching Shang-Li light up the box office on a traditionally slow weekend, Sony has moved Venom: Let There Be Carnage back up to October 1st.

The question is: does it stay?

Well that's a whopping 3 weeks away and tickets are going on sale on Wednesday , so I'd say it's a pretty safe bet.

Doesn't always mean it stays. A few years back, Us began advance sales and then got pushed a few days later.

Deon Taylor is self-distributing a COVID-themed thriller called Fear, which will open on 2/11/2022. Expect this to appear on a lot of critics' worst of 2022 list.

In sort of a baffling move, Universal will release Halloween Kills on Peacock the same day it hits theaters next month.

Wouldn't exactly call it that baffling. The Boss Baby: Family Business made $57 million theatrically on the same release platform. And horror fans will support anything.

Edit: looks like I found the reason for the decision. Early reviews are not very good for this one.

It's baffling because it seems like the type of movie that would really thrive using the current Universal theatrical/PVOD strategy. With it hitting Peacock for free and thus not hitting on demand until shortly before it releases on home video, all that extra revenue goes out the window and giving that up just to add a few new subscribers to their underperforming streaming service doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.

Moving on....

New Sony dates:
A Mouthful of Air 10/29/21
Untitled George Foreman Biopic 9/16/22
Lyle, Lyle Crocodile 11/18/22 (from 7/22/22)
I Wanna Dance with Somebody 12/13/22
Harold and the Purple Crayon 1/27/23

And a couple new ones from Warner:
Salem's Lot 9/9/22
Furiousa 5/24/24 (from 6/23/23)

Well, Peacock is at least doing better than what Quibi ever did. And Halloween Kills would have been a one-and-done movie anyway, even if it got the reviews the previous film did.

I wonder if Dear Evan Hansen might be getting the same treatment. Early reviews are terrible.

I can't believe they're still planning The Bob's Burgers Movie as theatrical. This has straight-to-Hulu written all over it.

Netflix is cashing in on Spencer's positive early response by scheduling a filmed performance of Diana: The Musical for an October 1st premiere.
