The final film from Quentin Tarantino, The Movie Critic, is set to start shooting this fall, likely to be scheduled for a late 2024 release. A bidding war is set to begin later this week for the distribution rights.

The main character is said to be based on Pauline Kael and the story takes place in the late 70's so he'll likely cast someone in their early 50's to mid 60's.

Figured that was the age bracket for the character since a bunch of people of Twitter were advocating for Cate Blanchett to get the part.

I was thinking of Blanchett also but I can't see her doing another film similar to Tár so soon. I could see Tilda Swinton in the role as well. A way outside the box possibility is that Tarantino tailors the project as a comeback role for Uma Thurman, who hasn't had a good role in years.

I just hope Tarantino doesn't make the character younger and cast someone completely unsuitable like Margot Robbie or Rooney Mara.

Having seen Severence I could see Patricia Arquette being a good option for Kael (assuming Tarantino is making a film about her - for a long time we all were told Hollywood was about Tate, but it's not really), and they were part of the same 90s scene.

As expected, but wasn't officially confirmed until 30 minutes ago, James Gunn will direct his script for Superman: Legacy.

Wow, we're going to get a R-rated Superman movie where Superman tells dick jokes for two and a half hours.

Just when I thought superhero movies couldn't get more infantile.

Zero chance Superman is R. Far too valuable of a property for DC to eliminate any potential audience that might be out there.

They're letting Gunn take control of everything, seeing how many things related to The Suicide Squad have come or are coming.

They'll make it R just so the Snydercut people don't complain. Also, remember that the extended Batman v. Superman was rated R.

If it ends up being R, feel free to taunt me into oblivion. I'd completely deserve it for being so adamantly dismissive of the idea. I just find it hard to believe that Gunn and Peter Safran would view it as a viable business decision to make the 1st solo Superman movie since 2013-which will likely be a massive part of whether or not their efforts to revitalize the DCU are successful-something that's exclusively aimed at adult audiences.

As I said, they are basing a lot of the current vision around The Suicide Squad, even though it wasn't a very popular movie outside of streaming. Warner Bros. doesn't really care about finding a new audience, only retaining who's left.

But it could have been much worse. Warner Bros. originally wanted Todd Phillips to handle things.

Universal must not have any faith in a DreamWorks title if they only gave it a date three months before opening. And having watched the trailer, I'm not surprised. Of all of the Pixar movies DreamWorks could have ripped off, they picked Luca of all things.

But the "Shrek is love" crowd will probably love it and insist it's better than Elemental since it's cool in the animation community to hate Pixar again.

A24 acquires another title that was previously with Lionsgate. Stop Making Sense will be reissued later this year in a new 4K restoration, followed by what I have to imagine will be the first US Blu-ray release of the film (it has long been rumored to be a future Criterion title though A24 themselves have done some Blu-ray and UHD releases).

Between this one and Pi, could A24 potentially be making a play to buy pieces of Lionsgate?
