I don't expect Sony to go after Kosinski's newest, as it basically reads like Gran Turismo without the video game elements.

I was this close to drafting Kosinski's Formula 1 film, good thing I did not.

The reported production budget is $300 million. How does a movie about Formula 1 cost this much to produce? Gran Turismo was a $60 million production and that was from a major studio rather than a middling streaming service.

You could have easily made this one for $100 million.

Formula 1 is backing the movie and once the SAG strike shut down production, they had to scrap all of the footage they shot at the races last summer and use the sponsors/cars for the 2024 season instead. Now, that's probably not the only reason the budget is $300 million but it surely made a big impact.

Focus has nabbed the worldwide rights (excluding South Korea) to Yorgos Lanthimos' next film Bugonia. It shoots this summer and will release next year. Jesse Plemons and Emma Stone are the first confirmed members of the cast.

With the way they spend, they might not even have realized they funded Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness or that the producers were taking this one to the open market

Am I OK? is the next film being liberated from WB's vault of long-completed streaming movies that David Zaslav didn't delete from existence. It will debut on Max on June 6th.

I was sure an independent would buy this one with Max retaining the streaming rights. In Zaslav's Warner Bros., it might be the least-characteristic movie on their slate of filmbro, toxic masculine, and nostalgia-aimed product.

It looks like Janus Films might be further beefing up its distribution of newer titles. Steven Rales, the head of Indian Paintbrush and frequent producer of Wes Anderson's films, has bought both Janus and The Criterion Collection and has pledged to continue both labels' mission statements.

That's a relief. Criterion had to let a bunch of staff go a while back, so glad it has a few more years left.

How many years ago was this one shot? It feels like it's been on the shelf since before COVID (edit: it was filmed in 2021).

Meanwhile, I have to imagine The Toxic Avenger will finally get distribution now. It premiered last year and got positive festival response but disappeared after.
