A24 has picked up Adam Wingard's newest, a return to the horror genre with Onslaught. It should be ready by next Halloween.

A24 has had a very busy week on the acquisition front. They also nabbed the rights to Parthenope ahead of its Cannes debut and John Patton Ford's sophomore feature Huntington-which is set to star Glen Powell, Margaret Qualley and Ed Harris.

I get the feeling they're going to sit on a lot of these, much like Miramax used to do. They have something like 20 undated movies right now.

Meanwhile, I found out they finally released the Jerry Lee Lewis documentary on Prime three months ago. They really buried that one despite its director.

Interesting that Disney decided against making the third installment. Tom Rothman must have taken the project with him when he left Fox or something.

Sony won the rights for Weeks and its sequel that's shooting back-to-back at auction back in January. Rothman's relationship with Danny Boyle likely played a factor in them coming out on top.

Nightbitch will keep its title, as Disney released a teaser poster this morning. I have to wonder now how many theatres will refuse to play it solely on the title.

They'll have to blur the letters or obscure them or something

Those theatres that still use marquees more than likely won't display the title and you probably can't run ads on certain stations before a certain time with such a title.

I remember when Kick-Ass came out and some theatres in really conservative areas wouldn't display the title, choosing to list it as "Kick-A" or just "Kick".

The Exorcism has been pushed to June 21st. Given the barren weekend, it wouldn't surprise me if this ended up being another Shudder title that opens wide.

Bleecker Street has landed the US rights to Love Me and will release it at a TBD date early next year. While the presence of Kristen Stewart and Steven Yuen in the cast is certainly largely responsible for its acquisition, it's still shocking that perhaps the worst reviewed title outside of the Midnight section at this year's Sundance got picked up before the Grand Jury Prize winner (In the Summers)

Bleecker Street's interested more in post-theatrical money at this point and a title like this looks good for TV and streaming packages.

As for In the Summers, it's not a very mainstream film so that would explain why it lacks a distributor. In addition, it feels like a lot of distributors gave up on Latin American-aimed projects after In the Heights flopped.

I'd totally forgotten about Margie Claus. I remember Melissa McCarthy was going to do this one but made Superintelligence instead.
