The Batman did $21.6 mil in previews including $17.6 mil yesterday. Early PostTrak polling has it at 4.5/5 stars and there's reportedly already been an additional $50 mil in ticket sales for today through Sunday, so it should do really well for this weekend and beyond.

That would suggest a $150m+ OW

How much of that will come from the increased prices that some theatres are charging?

It depends on the strength of the day of ticket sales, but that's certainly possible

AMC had been doing this for MONTHS (Dune, Spider-Man and No Time to Die were all $1 more than the normal price), but nobody noticed until the CEO said something on the earnings call this week. People's heads will also explode when they discover that they've done this in other countries for years and tickets are also cheaper from Monday-Thursday

Doesn't happen over here, as far as I know.

Prices only vary if you want really comfortable seats (and only certain cinemas do that), and most have reduced rates Mon-thurs (here in London my local cinemas charge $6.50-$7.50 on Monday evenings, which is really cheap). But not higher rates for the bigger films.

I still remember when Regal tried variable pricing some years back but it never got past talks as studios complained about the concept. How long before AMC is asked to back down (though I'm convinced a lot of it has to do with Warner Bros.' money issues) now that it's out in the open?

I hardly go to AMC nowadays so I was not even aware of the situation.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros. has to make Batgirl a theatrical release now. They are losing out on a possible $70-80 million by relegating it to HBO Max.

I doubt Batman makes it to 150 m - I feel like it will be kind of frontloaded.

Has anyone seen it yet? I'm going in a few hours.

Seeing it on Monday. Cheap seats.

It will be frontloaded although Deadline say it'll be less frontloaded as the Snyder films.

Just got out of it about an hour ago. I was blown away by it and can't wait to see it again next weekend.

I loved it too - easily the best Batman movie since The Dark Knight.

I wonder how audiences will react to it. The PostTrak rating is a good sign, as well as the fact that my audience applauded after the film, but it's very long (I generally have no issue with the length of a movie, but even I thought it was a bit long) and way too intense for children (it is pretty much a serial killer movie along the lines of a less gory and nihilistic version of Seven - with obviously a more upbeat ending, but with Batman) - not that either of these factors affected the Dark Knight Trilogy much, but it's still worth noting.

People definitely seem to be liking it quite a bit, which is a pleasant surprise considering how different it is from previous Batman movies. Cinemascore is an A--which admittedly is behind the A every entry in the Dark Knight trilogy received, there's a good deal of enthusiasm towards it online and like you Screen, there was a pretty sizable round of applause at my screening after it ended.

The Batman opened to 128 m over the weekend - it had both a better OW and multiplier than I expected. I imagine legs will be decent, considering the positive reactions showings of the film have recieved and how barren March is for the most part until The Lost City (which I am starting to think will really break out, going for 100 m, which would be only the third time a live-action comedy grossed that number since 2018).

Very encouraging weekend at the box office:
-The Lost City is on track to make $30.5 mil-which would make it the best debut for an original and female-aimed movie during the pandemic.
-Everything Everywhere All at Once posted the best PTA ($55.3k at 10 theaters in New York, LA and San Francisco) since Licorice Pizza.
-RRR is going to set a new record for an OW gross for a Bollywood film in the US with an $11.8 mil debut.
-The Batman, Uncharted and X all enjoyed sub 50% drops.
-Spider-Man reached $800 mil.
