Yeah, the potential drop off scared me off too. Right now, I'm not overly regretting not taking it, but if it legs out to $75 mil+, that will change.
Verdict is in: I regret not taking Scream  At least Jackass wasn't a completely debilitating pick over it.

Will reviews hurt Uncharted? Early word's not good.

Doubt it. Blockbusters aimed at a younger crowd tend to be review proof and the mixed early word didn't stop it from doing pretty well overseas this weekend. I'm not expecting it to set the world on fire on regardless, but it should be able to do alright domestically.

But it is a video game adaptation. Few have truly taken off and this was expected to be the breakout video game movie.

I don't think most people seeing Uncharted care (or even know) it's based off of a video game.

Uncharted did $3.7 mil in previews last night-which is about $700 k more than Sonic the Hedgehog did on President's Day Weekend 2 years ago. While it probably won't end up matching Sonic's terrific $58 mil opening, it's certainly a good start and a $50 mil 4-day haul seems feasible.

I doubt it goes quite that high, looking at similar comparisons like the first Kingsman movie. I expect it to do around 40-45 m for the 4-day.

Uncharted is looking at a $51 mil 4-day while Dog posted a solid $18 mi opening in the #2 spot. Very encouraging to see a pair of films beat their projections in the same weekend.

Guess I was wrong ;) . It's great to see some films overperformong again, though, and both of these numbers bode very well for The Lost City. Could we see a 30 m OW for that?

30 mil+ for The Lost City is certainly possible. It's the only completely mainstream wide release on the schedule for March outside of Batman and the pairing of Bullock and Tatum is appealing enough to potentially bring in the masses.

I wouldn't go that far. The Lost City looks very dated (seriously, the plot is more or less lifted from the Jodie Foster/Gerard Butler subplot from Nim's Island in 2008) and the trailer seems to have shown any parts that would be considered good (a great trailer editor would have kept Brad Pitt's appearance a surprise). Dog might have surprised but that felt like a film you would have gone to see in theatres and not just because it was Tatum's first live-action role in several years. The Lost City looks like the kind of thing you watch on streaming and instantly forget about.

I'd expect the general public to wait a week for Morbius.

I'm not sure if I believe it will reach 30 m, but I do think it has a chance. The market will be empty (I don't think The Outfit will do much more than 10 m in total - probably a decent amount less - and X won't make that much either, and is aimed at a different audience), and Sandra Bullock has a great track record with successful films. I imagine it will surpass expectations similar to Jungle Cruise, Free Gut, and now Uncharted.

I do agree with you about the Brad Pitt cameo though (though I expect the film to be at least decently-reviewed - big-name premieres at SXSW, although not always acclaimed, are rarely recieved horribly). Films with trailers that spoil cameos have been recieved positively by critics/audiences in the past (such as the Mamma Mia! sequel).
