I would have been surprised if this one hadn't been taken very soon.

Thanks Six. Insurgent was on a downpath after Divergent, so I wouldn't have considered it 3rd round. If the down path continues, Allegiance will barely make over $100M. it's a safe pick for $100M though.

Re: 2015-16 Full Year Draft Thread (Division A)
I already know I'm gonna hesitate for my next two picks. Some films that have been taken lately were not on my "grab'em next !" list so I'll have more options than I thought. Although Spectre will probably take one away from me...

I can only hope haha.Chienfantome wrote:Although Spectre will probably take one away from me...
I have a few options on my board as well but with all my safer options off the table, it looks like I'm going to be the one to bite the bullet and take Terminator Genisys. I wasn't expecting to draft it at all but I wasn't expecting it to be here either. Yes the trailers have gotten mixed at best reactions and yes, Salvation disappointed bigtime but it's still an established franchise with a July 4th weekend release and Arnold returning. Even if it disappoints like it could, it should still have a highish floor.

Re: 2015-16 Full Year Draft Thread (Division A)
Well, it sure was tempting in round 3 to take the new Terminator movie opening on July 4th. I was considering it.
Okay, soooo. I have two films on my book with great potential that I thought would be taken by now, but are available. So I'm gonna go with my first instinct and take them.
I'll go with The Martian and Deadpool.
I read The Martian last year, and boy, this has huge potential. It's a mix between Apollo 13 and Gravity, on Mars. Interstellar disappointed last year because we thought it could be the next Gravity. But it was too out there to be huge. But The Martian is a pure suspense/action film in space, with one of the best cast of the year. If Scott pulled it, this could be one of the biggest films of the end of the year.
As for Deadpool, well, its potential is more limited, but the buzz and scrutinity is high, and well, it's a superhero draft for me, might as well grab this one too

Re: 2015-16 Full Year Draft Thread (Division A)
I'd considered Terminator and Magic Mike 2, but I decided that Alvin would do better than both over the holidays. It'll skew young enough not to overlap with Star Wars.
Mad Max, I still don't see $100M there.
The Martian, I really wanted but I thought it might get overshadowed by Star Wars. Deadpool, I also really wanted. Dammit Chien!

Re: 2015-16 Full Year Draft Thread (Division A)
Last Alvin saw a HUGE drop from the first two though, and it was more than 5 years ago, so I was wary of it, it will struggle to do the same numbers as the 3rd.
I think there's enough space between The Martian and Star Wars for the two films to coexist. Besides, The Martian is gonna be so much different from Star Wars.

Re: 2015-16 Full Year Draft Thread (Division A)
I almost picked Deadpool but the R rating combined with Ryan Reynolds as a lead and the general limitation there seems to be on some X-Men movies, I thought I'd grab Terminator first and see if it came back. There's a definite possibility that the fanboys carry Deadpool to a great take but they need to step up.
Guess that means I'll be going with The Jungle Book here. If I want to beat Star Wars/Avengers, I need to take risks so here we go. It needs to at least hold that date or get moved up to not ruin my draft but at that spot with 3 weekends, it should be good for an easy $125M+. If it gets moved up, the upside is huge. And if it gets moved back... well... there's always next year.

I know, Spectre. I went back and worth about Jungle Book. It was there on my list next to The Martian and Deadpool. That release date , and the fact Disney already moved it back once, scared me. for an early round.
