Halloween Kills did drop over 70% though. A lot of these new movies have been seemingly one-and-done and it wouldn't surprise me if Dune continued that trend.

As for November, Eternals will probably be the only bonafide hit, despite mixed early word. The box office will only return to pre-pandemic levels if the movies get better. There is just not much promise for a lot of these.

Having seen Dune, I expect it to collapse after opening weekend. Maybe it has to do with me finding the film good-but-not-great, but I don't see audiences latching onto it - it would not suprise me to see it miss 100 m domestically. It is rather slow for about the first 30 minutes or so, and I expect general audiences to lose interest early before the plot really starts.

And for November, I think that Encanto will bring families back to theaters. I don't see it being huge, but I think it could do over 100 m. Besides that film and Eternals, I don't see anything doing that well - I think that Ghostbusters and Clifford both do about 80 m or so, and nothing except maybe House Of Gucci reaches that.

Not having seen Dune, I expect it to flourish after the OW. Maybe it because i think Denis V has got something going for his audience but i dont see the HBO viewers propping it up with imdb votes. Most films with said director tend to start slow, which have better legs, i can see it topping 100mil easy, 150 not out of this world.

And for November, I think Eternals is in a bit of trouble, heard some poor early reviews but with superheroes, you just never know. Encanto may be more Coco than Onward, lets hope so any way.

As I expected, Dune's looking like another one-and-done movie despite it looking to stay in first.

Meanwhile, was I the only one to pick My Hero Academia? It's going to beat both Last Night in Soho and Antlers in way fewer theatres.

My Hero Academia was a nice pick. Even if it falls out of the top 5 next week, it will go down as a good value play.

I had remembered the last one doing well. Anime always does good numbers where I live.
