IT'S BAAAAACK!! Ultimate League JUL-SEP (test league)

Post by Shrykespeare »

Hey guys! After a looooooong hiatus, the game is back!

You know the drill, even though it is a little rusty. Please email me your lineups in Ultimate and/or Box Office at shrykespeare42@gmail.com, or you can PM them to me here (though I prefer email).

The usual rules apply... you get $100 to spend, and no more than eight films on your final roster.
Happy 60th birthday Jet Li! (4/26/23)

Shryke, don't know if you just mislabeled the title No Ordinary Man or left it out by mistake, but Escape Room: Tournament of Champions should be in with the July 16th titles.

Oh, I saw a trailer for that a couple weeks ago. Very "Cube"-meets-"Hunger Games", by way, maybe, of "Nerve". I might go see that one.

Saw a trailer for it with Werewolves Within. Pretty much looks exactly like the first, to the point where they are reusing traps. Also, how are they going to explain the characters that weren't in the first film having survived to appear in the new one?

Um, there were other games before the one depicted in the original-hence the title Tournament of Champions.

But shouldn't we have seen those competitions first? Not sure how many fans of the previous film are going to feel having to watch characters that they're supposed to care for but have no reason to do so because they never got to see why they are so good at what they do. It's like when you have a film based on an established property (*cough*Mortal Kombat*cough*) but the main character was created exclusively for said film.

Shit. Thanks.

I was going by BOM's list, and for whatever reason, ER2 is listed with a release date of 7/16/22, not 7/16/21.

Adding prices now.

The players had no clue what they were really up against until the latter stages of the film. Plus even with an ending that leaves room for a sequel, there was no way that the filmmakers knew it was going to happen while the original was in production, so deep diving on the lore wouldn't have been a practical move.

As for the characters, that shouldn't be an issue. The first one did a decent enough job developing the players in the midst of all the traps and with Taylor Russell and Logan Miller returning and remaining the top protagonists, there's already enough of an emotional hook in place if you enjoyed the first one.

The way I see it, they should focus more on the traps than the cast and made it all new players this time, then waited until the third or fourth installment to do the Tournament of Champions idea. That way, if the movies are still making money, you build anticipation by bringing back a popular character for said theoretical entry.

But Sony's going to keep being Sony by ignoring what would work in favor of fast money.

So, I now have slates from Nico, Six, Tranny, Screen, and Boosh.

Waiting on Chien, Surfer, Spectre, Leestu, and Walleye. Geezer has declined to rejoin the leagues.
