Re: Fantaverse Top 100 Movies of All Time (Thread #7): 40-31
So, I listed ALL of the movies from this thread that I haven't seen. I'm going to add one from each contributor to my Netflix queue. For those interested (and who feel they know my tastes well enough), would anyone with more than one listed here recommend the best pick for me?

you haven't seen Casablanca?? I admit there is no movie out there that is or ever will be universally loved. but as a self professed film buff, if you haven't seen Casablanca you are missing out. even as just film knowledge.

I'll have to say Lawrence of Arabia. You seem like a man who enjoys classic cinema (seeing that you go to revival shows a lot) so I suggest it. You will need the intermission though.
Everything on this post is strictly the opinion and only the opinion of Buscemi.

From my list? Probably Casablanca as it's a universal classic, but In The Mood For Love is quite brilliant and one of the greatest to come out of Asian cinema since Kurosawa's classics.
And from Helena's I'd probably go with Early Summer, though I guess it's what your after, both are very different movies, with Early Summer a delicate, sombre story of changing times in 1950s Japan, while His Girl Friday is a classic screwball comedy with fantastic dialogue. Both were also on my own list and I can highly recommend both.
Probably didn't help did I....

You picked a lot of comedies I like this round and Shallow Grave has a lot of dark humour, so I guess that's the one I'd pick. Plus anyone with hair like that must have some Scottish blood in him.
Re: Fantaverse Top 100 Movies of All Time (Thread #7): 40-31
German and Irish, actually.
Funny thing is: I started our little "Movie Club" based on the fact that I've never seen two particular MUST-SEE films: Casablanca and Lawrence of Arabia. And, somehow, they still manage to both remain on my to-see list...
However, the Paramount Theatre (a beeeeautiful venue here in Austin) shows them both every summer. I've decided that my first-viewing of both should be in a real theater on the a big screen. So... with that in mind, I guess neither of those are going on my queue for the time being. But I WILL see them!! (I'm making that promise to myself as much as anyone).

Cuban? No, Dutch-Irish.
My #1 pick appeared on your list this round, so go ahead and watch all 4.

I do. I could easily change it, but then it would lead to more changes and I'm happy with it the way it is.undeadmonkey wrote:your number #1?! i still haven't ordered my top twenty, ugh, i don't know what to do! but there's about 65% chance that someone has picked my #1 pick.

My no.1 and no.2 movies have pretty much been set in place for years, I continue to love watching them, it's unlikely they will ever change unless something completely blows me out of the water. Beyond that I kind of knew what would fit in my top ten as well as a few which would border on it. Anything after no.20 was just a decision when I was assembling my list.

I made my entire list right before the countdown started. Some things have changed here and there, but mostly it's stayed the same.undeadmonkey wrote:

I think most, if not all, of my top 10 has already been picked somewhere by someone. Including my number one within the first 2 weeks of this countdown!

It looks like there'll be no #30 tonight. I'm still missing Ozzy and Banks. It's okay, now seems as good a time as any for the 7th-inning stretch.
Happy 60th birthday Jet Li! (4/26/23)

NSpan, my French pride wants to say : Go with "Le Cercle Rouge". But in the end, it really depends on what genre you prefer. If you love Hollywood Golden Age comedy, go for The Philadelphia Story. But if you love stylish french gangster films, the ones that inspired HK cinema in the 80's and 90's, then go for Le Cercle Rouge. Ultimately, of course, they are both fantastic films
