Re: The Official 2014-15 Full Year Draft Thread (Division B)

With great shame I'll take Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. Yes it sucked, yes this should somehow be worse and yes, it only has 2 weeks of run time with this release date. It also made $65M during its first 2 weeks and dammit, if Grown Ups 2 can somehow repeat its original success at the box office despite ...

Re: The Official 2014-15 Full Year Draft Thread (Division B)

Hoo boy. When I made a list of 10 movies to cover the next 12 picks, I didn't think I'd lose every one of them... you guys need to get out of my head. :P I guess I'll go with Business or Pleasure. Vince Vaughn hasn't had a hit in a few years but an out-of-control European business trip feels like it...

Re: The Official 2014-15 Full Year Draft Thread (Division B)

I'll take The Longest Ride. Sparks adaptations usually put away $50M in their sleep even without a Valentine's release. I'll bet on that floor and hope for a touch of upside.

Re: The Official 2014-15 Full Year Draft Thread (Division B)

Now is when the going gets hard... I'm going to go with The Judge. How Robert Downey Jr. will fare outside of an action/comedy and how David Dobkin will do directing a non-comedy (seriously... has he ever done one?) is above my pay grade... but what the hell? The cast is fantastic for a dramedy and ...

Re: The Official 2014-15 Full Year Draft Thread (Division B)

I'm very happy with my slate so far, but this is roughly the point where I started shooting myself in the foot last year, so yeah, there's still a lot of game to be played. There may not be a Gravity among what's left, but these rounds are where you can see a $100 million movie picked alongside a $...

Re: The Official 2014-15 Full Year Draft Thread (Division B)

I'll go with Get On Up . Assuming it doesn't suck, it seems like it's right in the same vein of the other biopics that have done well recently. If it does suck... well that's what the waiver wire is for. :D EDIT: And I'm EST by the way but fortunately I passed out on the couch instead of went to bed...

Re: The Official 2014-15 Full Year Draft Thread (Division B)

I guess I'll go with Annie here. I can see it soaking up family audiences around Christmas and hopefully this release date will minimize the bust potential since family flicks do well historically around the holidays.

Re: The Official 2014-15 Full Year Draft Thread (Division B)

I am so very nervous about this next pick, but all the good stuff from summer is already gone, so. I will take Jupiter Ascending , and pray that Channing Tatum (coming off 22 Jump Street, which will hopefully be a big hit) can combine with whatever draw the Wachowskis' names still have to bring in ...

Re: The Official 2014-15 Full Year Draft Thread (Division B)

I'll grab Dumb and Dumber To. Gonna be a lot of nostalgia with this one and the original made $240 DOM adjusted for inflation... surely some of those people want to see a sequel? Not that it'll even sniff that but... even one out of a million means there's a chance.

Re: The Official 2014-15 Full Year Draft Thread (Division B)

Gone Girl is a big risk. Could be an Argo-type Award success, or it could be a mid-level hit like Prisoners. Like Brock said, I think everything from here on out is a risk. With the Oscar buzz it's getting already and the release date set for the same weekend that launched The Social Network and Gr...

Re: The Official 2014-15 Full Year Draft Thread (Division B)

I'll go with Gone Girl. Not sure how much upside Fincher has at the box office above the low 100's but this one's already generating some buzz. Walleye stole my pick though :P

Big Hero 6 for me. I wish there was a legit trailer I could see for it but hey, Walt Disney Animation Studios can't lose recently, right?

I almost went with Spider-Man but the tracking so far doesn't make me think it can outperform. X-Men could fall short of it but I think it has upside with the cast cross-over (and the fact that it should be a better movie).
