Re: Screening The Releases - March 14th
I doubt the average audience member is going to connect those two films together, particularly since PResence had so little marketing and WOM. The problem is Focus just don't have the budget to push films that much, and actually Black Bag's opening is quite high for their kind of releases. The othe...

Re: Screening The Releases - March 14th
What makes this weekend's results so disheartening is that marketing and/or reviews/WOM can't be blamed for the blah performances of Novocaine and Black Bag. People just didn't care to see them. On the plus side, at least there's a 0% chance that any weekend over the next 4-5 months will be as low a...

Re: 2025 Festivals/Awards Thread
Variety just published their annual Cannes speculation piece. The sole notable confirmed title is Jim Jarmusch's Father Mother Sister Brother, but the list of titles reportedly vying for spots is robust. Headlining the list is The Phoenician Scheme, Highest 2 Lowest, Sentimental Value, Eddington, No...

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep
Sure, Anora won Best Picture, but you also loathe Sean Baker's work. Why spend 2+ hours further affirming well-earned negative feelings? If there was a food item that you tried a half dozen or so times over the years that you were repulsed by, would you eat it again just because it won a fucking awa...

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep
This is something I've wanted to ask you for a while Boosh: Why do you spend so much time watching movies you know you're going to hate? The world is overflowing with misery, willingly inviting more in-even if it's only for a couple of hours at a time-just feels like a senseless act of self-torture.

Re: Rate That Movie Part IV: Movies Never Sleep
Even with his dad's history in the industry, I'm still stunned that Ash Avildsen has really committed to making movies. It's not every day that you see a pretty successful record label executive/tour promoter take on indie filmmaking as a side job (although given how the industry is going now, peopl...
