Re: Tranny Tackles the Cinema: The Films of 5/24
I think the buzz about Garfield has been dropping recently. It's being seen less as an essential family film and more of a filler until the emotions and the minions dominate. I think $100m feels about right by the summer's end.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread
It's the only film in the fest that has been getting solely positive reviews.
Even The Substance got some poor/average ones in the end (though given Gerwig is head of the jury, I could see her going for satirical body-horror).

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
That's a relief. Criterion had to let a bunch of staff go a while back, so glad it has a few more years left.

Re: 2024 Festivals/Awards Thread
Early reviews for The Substance are overwhelmingly positive-with many stating that it's an instant body horror classic and features a triumphant comeback performance from Demi Moore. Could very well end in the mix for the Palm. I'm a little surprised. I found her first move, Revenge, to be superfic...

Winehouse had a huge hit in the US with Rehab, and Back to Black reached #2 in the album charts. She was more popular than you'd think, and she's constantly being referenced by contemporary singers. If the doc can do $8m, the biopic can do way more.

SIX TIPS, OR HOW TO PLEASE YOUR SLATE – THE FILMS OF 5/17
We’re about half-way through the latest game of Ultimate and Box-Office, so now’s a good time to analyse your slate and see what can be salvaged. If you picked Fall Guy in BO, for example, you may be in trouble. Last week saw solid numbers from the latest Apes film, with an unexpected $58m opening. ...

Re: 2024-25 Full Year Slates
Right, let's see who has a strong slate. I certainly like Screen. Minecraft was a major risk but if it opens in April it could be the next MArio Bros. Sonic 3 should be reliable. Beetlejuice 2 may not make it past $150m. And Trap could do well as the response to the trailer was strong. On the other ...
