Yeah Banks, you are far and away the best at this long term prognostication game. I don't know how you manage to do it so consistently. I'm happy to finish 9th with how bad some of my picks turned out to be!

Re: 2013-14 Full Year Sign-Up Sheet
It's now the 11th, which means that we need to get the draft date, number of leagues and number of players in each league locked down.
Here's what I propose:
The Top 10 in the current league will comprise Division A, with the draft order determined by the reverse order of finish.
Division B will be comprised of all returning players not in the Top 10, along with all first-time players. Again, returning players will pick first-through-whatever based on reverse order of finish, with the newbies making up the tail end of the first round (order will be selected by random draw).
Both Divisions will draft using the snake-ladder format.
I propose 16 rounds. There are currently about 110 films currently scheduled for wide release between May and April, and this many rounds would allow them all to be chosen, along with a few extra spots for as-yet-unscheduled additions or allowances for films that may be bumped or shelved.
I think that after Oblivion's first weekend is in the books, we'll have a pretty good idea of what the final standings will look like. If our best estimations turn out to be wrong, how about this: let's say a player picking third ends up finishing higher than the player picking fourth. By the time the current league ends, the draft should be largely completed, so the player who finished higher but picked lower will have the option to swap any pick (from the third round on) with the player who picked higher. (Sounds confusing, but hopefully you can navigate my logic.)
Let me know what you all think.

That all sounds good, Shryke. So Division 1 will have 10 and Division 2 with have 8? Should there be more rounds for Division 2 then (e.g. 18 rounds)?

Re: 2013-14 Full Year Sign-Up Sheet
I think Division 2 will have nine. All returning players (except donnie), along with Shaan, Walleye, SleepySkunk and my friend RathfulProphetic, who has agreed to play. And it may even out if we can get one more player.
If someone drops out and we start the draft with only 18 players, we'll do nine each.
I'm sure empire will love this arrangement, since finishing at #10 will give him the #1 pick.
Assuming my predictions come true, here will be the draft order:
DIVISION A:
1. Empire
2. Geezer
3. W
4. Boosh
5. Shryke
6. Leestu
7. Chien
8. UDM
9. Banks
10. Tranny
DIVISION B:
1. JohnErle
2. Aquamann
3. Ozzy
4. Surfer
5. Six
6-9: Shaan, Walleye, Skunk, Rathful

I'm good with that. I would have preferred a top 3 position, but I think there are enough movies with break out potential this year to make a fourth or even seventh round slot work. Funny that the two guys who had access to IMDB pro are both in Division B (myself and six). Obviously didn't pay off!
Looking forward to this now.

Well, yeah, but you'll have your choice of The Hobbit Part 2, Man of Steel, Star Trek Into Darkness, or several others that have the potential to crack $200M. So will I (I hope).W wrote:Well, I know which two will be gone by the time I pick.

I'd rather not have a choice and have pick number one ore two.

Well then, I'm sorry your luck wasn't bad enough to come in last or second-to-last. Oh, wait, no I'm not.W wrote:I'd rather not have a choice and have pick number one ore two.

Very well ! It all sounds good to me. We will need to remind the newbies of the game to check the boards as often as they can to see if it's not their turn to pick so they don't slow down the draft.

I have a feeling this is going to be a real issue with so many non-regulars...Chienfantome wrote:Very well ! It all sounds good to me. We will need to remind the newbies of the game to check the boards as often as they can to see if it's not their turn to pick so they don't slow down the draft.

I think they should almost be forced to make a list of the films they want, sent to Shryke so that if they miss their turn it'll just be posted. Most of us don't realise the pressure of a game like this!Chienfantome wrote:Very well ! It all sounds good to me. I can't speak for the other newbies, but I'll make sure my friend keeps the draft going apace.
