Hey all,
It's been three years since we did our Top 100 songs of all time, and I've really missed it. I was hoping we could find some way to do another countdown, if we can all agree on a format.
Speaking for myself, I have listened to a ton of stuff over the last few years, and I'm sure if we were to redo our Top 100 lists, mine would look considerably different (though maybe not at the very top).
So what I was thinking was this: we could do a Top 20, or 50, or 100 of a particular decade, like the 80's, the 90's, or the 00's. We could do a Top 10 for one particular year. We could even do it by genre, but that would open a can of worms because so much of music is open to interpretation and doesn't fix comfortably in one box.
So let me know what format would appeal to you, and if you're even interested. We can start after the album countdown is done (plus a grace period).

I think we would need a considerable grace period after the albums. It took a lot out of us.
My only initial concern is the repetition no matter what way we try to do music.

I know, but maybe if we could get a few people involved that didn't take part in the Top 100 countdown, it might inject a new sense of curiosity into it.

Doing a top songs list would be too difficult for me because my #1 song today might not crack my top 40 tomorrow. There just isn't enough separation there. Choosing between albums was hard enough. A top artists list might be doable though.
I'd still need a long break after the top albums and enough prep time to do a proper list. If another countdown is going to be done this year it might make sense to switch back to movies. Maybe top directors?
And you can always jump in to the top 10 albums.

I don't really buy albums anymore. In fact, I haven't paid for music in years.

Re: Possible future music countdowns
We should do unique lists...for example:
- Top 5 artists who you loved their debut album, only to be disappointed in everything since
-Top 5 artists and/or songs you're ashamed to like, but can't help it
-Top 10 electronic songs
-Top 10 one hit wonders
etc, etc, etc...catch my drift?

If enough people decide on something like that, I'm in. I have missed doing music stuff.

Ok, so who is in? And what do we want to do for a list?
