Re: 2019-20 Full Year Slates (Division A)
Tracking has A Quiet Place at $40-50 mil for the weekend and the only thing that's stopping me from confidently saying it will land in that range is Canada's relative lack of open theaters (believe only about 25-35% of their theaters are currently up and running). Presales have reportedly been terrific and the strength of the reviews should only add to the buzz, so I'll go with somewhere around $37-38 mil. Cruella should also be able to solid numbers.
On a related note, I think we should seriously consider restarting the game in July. The upcoming slate is starting to stabilize to the point where they'll be enough titles to choose from, the capacity restrictions are slated to be gone just about everywhere in the States by the end of June and the 3 Canadian provinces still under lockdown (Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta) are on track to be back online around then.

I could see the three-day being like Alien: Covenant or going 40m+. I really don't know. In early 2020, I was thinking that this could do done 80m+, even 100m+ if it opened on the 13th. Obviously I don't think so now.
It's not destroying. It's making something new.

Cruella looks like a bomb to me. Between no reviews being out yet, the two hour-plus runtime (this could have seriously been a 90 minute movie), the marketing being too similar to Joker, and the decision to make it available day-and-date, I can't see it making more than $10 million in the three-day.

The expectation that this weekend would mark the first step towards box office recovery in the US has come true. A Quiet Place II shattered Godzilla vs. Kong's previous pandemic-era record with a projected $48.3 mil 3-day/$58.4 mil 4-day opening while Cruella has also gotten off to a solid start ($21.3 mil 3-day/$26.5 mil 4-day). It was also the 1st weekend since March 6-8 2020 where the box office cleared $100 mil for the weekend. We're a step closer to re-starting the game folks and I couldn't be happier.

I was really surprised that Quiet Place opened so well.

I'm going to have to start doing some research. For real - I think we start this in July. Why not? We've got to do some experimenting with games to see what makes sense with all the day and dates and streamers anyway. I love being a Guinea pig!
Re: 2019-20 Full Year Slates (Division A)
It seems the numbers are showing that the box office is back. I'm happy to start whenever as long as we've less rounds.
Re: 2019-20 Full Year Slates (Division A)
I think we should restart the game soon.
What does everyone see the openers doing this weekend? I see Conjuring doing La Llorona numbers, and I really don't know what to think of Spirit Untamed.

I will look into restarting the game soon.
Of course, things being what they are, I have to wonder how disparate people's slates will be. There are still very few big-name titles that are running exclusively in theaters, though that may change.
Maybe instead of anything huge, we could do a test league with the usual parameters - July-Sept, BO and Ultimate.
What do you guys think?
And also, I'll need volunteers for the pricing panel if this comes through.

In the event that the full year draft would have come back this year, I would have likely drafted a fall/winter release in the first round. Too much uncertainly in the early months.
I'd wait until September at the earliest to do that test round.

I've already cobbled together a list of 51 films scheduled for wide and limited release in July, August, and September.
I really would like to do a test run, even if only a handful of you participate. I need to get back into "playing shape" as moderator, as it's been a while since I've done this.

Yeah, fine. But can promotion/relegation be suspended for the time being? It doesn't feel right to penalize people for situations beyond anyone's control.
