Ron, Wizard of Oz : Used to be one of my favorites as a kid, growing up. Haven't seen in ages, but I'm sure I would rewatch it very fondly.

Six, Manhattan : Can't remember if I haven't seen in ages ornever seen it at all.

Boosch, Brick : A great film in my opinion. It twists the codes of the genre and turns into a film unique.

Walleye, The English Patient : I think I haven't sen it since I discovered it in theaters 20 years ago as a 15 or 16 year-old, and this film took me by surprise back then. Thought I would hate it, it impressed me and moved me.

John, Godfather II : You will burn in Hell for this.

Tranny, Love Actually : The one I agree with on this round ! Indeed overrated !

Ron, GOTG 2 : Clearly a disappointment after the 1st one, yep.

Six, The hidden Fortress : Hmmmm... I've actually never seen this one from Kurosawa I think.

Boosch, Pan's Labyrinth : I love this film ! There is such richesse and density and emotion in Del Toro's film, and cinema in general. (I absolutely loath Tideland, horrible film).

Walleye, Wonder Woman : Agreed. Just another superhero film.

John, MASH : Haven't seen in a long time, I like it, but it's not in my pantheon, so I guess I kinda agree.

Tranny, Tree of Life : I can understand how one might think so, because it's such a special film, but I admire and love it.

I really wish I had.

I didn't have the will to waste so many hours of my life, I stopped watching those films long ago, never seen the 3rd or 4th.
Ron Burgundy wrote:Notice how i didn't show the titles of the first 2, not only Azkaban (still the best)? That because i think the first 3 are all pretty good
Nope, the first 2 are as bad as the rest except the 2 I singled out, in my opinion ;)

I remember several of us listing it in our Top 100 of the 21st century, so yes, it is overrated by some here ;)

I have plenty of soul for the films worthy of it ;)

Ron: Although it was still a decent movie, I was super disappointed by it. When it played the hits it was fun, but the dramatic elements were horribly executed and ill-fitting alongside all the zaniness.

Six: Haven't seen

Walleye: This was a strong contender for my list. I found it to be a mind-numbingly mediocre affair with absolutely no standout elements.

Chien: Disagree hard. Even though the sequel have been all over the place in terms of quality, I still hold Curse of the Black Pearl in very high regard.

Boosh: Finally saw this a few weeks back and loved it. One of them ambitious, rewarding and visually-impressive fantasy films I've ever seen.

And of course my write-up on The Tree of Life (Kudos to Ron for writing the very concise yet powerful "This film sucks"): Malick's reflection on the meaning of life is one of the most pretentious and meandering piles of shit I've ever seen. If I wanted to watch some asshole father scream at his kids behind a nice color pallet for 2 and a half hours, I'd bring a kaleidoscope to any youth sporting event in my area.

More movies that I haven't seen (which makes me glad that I haven't), and several that I have (which makes me wonder if we were watching the same thing.)

GOTG 2 - So many of my kids and their friends loved this movie I've had to put on a happy face and pretend I enjoyed it. It was fine, but I don't disagree with it being on this list.

Haven't watched the Kurosawa or the Malick films. Life is too short. Although the idea of hearing a dad scream at his kid in a rich color palette sure sounds like loads of fun to watch :)

Pan's - I'll defer until later

And I'll chime in that I loved the first Pirates. Everything after that got awful - really awful. But I thought the first one was a riot, with a surprisingly decent plot.

Also - I'm one of those who loves Love Actually. But my wife would agree with all of you and she won't watch it with me anymore!

The only Altman movie I've really loved is The Player. Fantastic movie. For me, all the rest, pale in comparison. MASH certainly feels overrated to me.

Love Actually is at least better than About Time.

Meanwhile, what's your opinion on Popeye, Walleye?

Ron
Guardians - It's definitely a let down from the first. overrated i'm not sure, there not many people out there claiming it's great. not that i know of anyway

Boosh
Pans- Yea, the fact that you think the real word plot is 'tacked on' reveals that you missed the point. The fantasy land is the subplot

Walleye
Wonder Woman - I want to agree, but i liked it. It was the best movie of the summer.

Chien
Pirates of the Caribbean : The Curse of the Black Pearl - Chien, Chien, I want you to know that I was rooting for you. Know that.

I think Chien must have fallen asleep during Black Pearl, due to some underlying health concern, and then he must have banged his head on an armrest because brain injury is the only way to explain his irrational hatred of the original Pirates. The rest are all varying degrees of terrible, but the original was a stunning surprise.

Monkey, does a movie need to have a singular point? The director might intend for one point but you can find all sorts of interpretations for certain movies (look at Inside Out, is Joy a strong leader or a sociopathic monster hidden behind sunshine?). Pan's Labyrinth simply did not need to have the Franco's Spain plot. It's a generic fantasy film that thinks it's more important than it really is by shoehorning fascism into a retread of Jim Henson's Labyrinth.

Besides, we already got the ultimate fascist Spain movie 33 years earlier and it didn't need to be an awards-bait spectacle.

You know the first time I watched Popeye I was not impressed. A second viewing changed my opinion a little bit in that all the side stuff is really good. The world he created, the side characters. But the leads really muck up the overall product. A very mixed bag.

But the clear point of Pan's Labyrinth is that it's a film in which the experience of fantasy is the driving force behind a moral choice in the real world. So the facism angle can't be tacked on, otherwise the film woudl make no sense. That's why it's not just a fantasy movie. The fantasy is given a clear purpose.

Then I suggest dropping some acid and watching a re-run of All In The Family. That would be infinitely preferable to sitting through Tree Of Life.

You could cut out the middle man and just take a nice long nap instead of watching Tree of Life.
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.

I'm absolutely delighted that there are other people here that hated The Tree of Life.
