Trailer: Green Lantern

Post by Buscemi »

Basically it's DC's attempt at ripping off Iron Man but with lesser talent.

Indeed, but with an added element of camp that conflicts with itself.

I am a Massive Green Lantern fan and a Massive Ryan Reynolds fan but he was not right for the part. He should have made the deadpool movie instead, he was made to play dead pool. The CGI looks horrible, it deviates massively from the comics, and RR's personality comes through way too much.

HA! That purple guy looks like the villain from the Power Rangers movie.

New trailer. Though some of the effects look unfinished, at least it no longer looks like an Iron Man ripoff and actually has the potential to be a good movie.

Also, a third trailer is supposed to be enclosed with prints of Thor.

The trailer has actually made me dislike the film more. The lead looks awful and the whole planet of green lantern dudes looks so silly I want to laugh. Style and tone remind me of the Fantastic Four movies, but worse.

As I said, some of the effects look unfinished. They are probably still working on the planet scenes (in fact, Geoffrey Rush's voice was added just a few days ago in those scenes).

Ah but my point isn't the quality of the CGI, it's the idea in general. It's cartoony, just like F4

Exactly part of the reason that I liked the FF movies so much. They didn't try to get overly deep or dramatic or dark like the Batman, Spider-Man or Iron Man movies, they just did a campy, corny, cartoony story.

Given that Thor, X-Men and Captain America are almost sure to be "serious" in their tone, I find myself hoping that Green Lantern won't take itself too seriously and that Ryan will just have fun with the role. If that happens, I guarantee I'll love the film regardless of how polished the CGI is. I mean, no one EVER watched classic Dr. Who because the effects were great, but that didn't stop legions of fans from watching anyway!

I also liked the first fantastic four, it was fun. For this movie to work it all depends on if it's good or not. As it could be argued that Indiana Jones and Star Wars are cartoony as well.

True, but there's not one thing that looks good in this trailer. It's certainly not funny, it's not particularly different or original, and the action doesn't look particularly good. It literally has nothing going for it, for me. And it's not that I can't appreciate "fun", as I do like the Indy and Star Wars films, as well as Iron Man and Star Trek.

Criminal Law, GoldenEye and Edge of Darkness weren't crap.
