Pretty sure Mean Girls: The Musical is just called Mean Girls. The marketing is pretty much selling it as a straight remake instead of an adaptation of the Broadway show.

It wouldn't be the first time. Paramount tried to sell Sweeney Todd as a horror film instead of a musical.

As for the film itself, it makes me think of when Heathers was adapted into a TV show and got rid of everything that made the original work, essentially turning it into a Mean Girls clone.
