Re: The Trailers Shown Before Other Movies Thread
How do you guys find out which screenings are in dolby? Do they have separate showtimes like imax and 3D? I don’t think we have any here.

Fandango will point out which movies have the Dolby Cinema auditoriums (which I believe is still exclusive to AMC). My nearest AMC was built back in the stone age (I mean 1991) and the chain has never upgraded any of the auditoriums (in fact, the only time they really tried to do anything with the auditoriums was when they attempted to get rid of side masking but got too many complaints over scope films being shown letterboxed).
It's like what Lenin said...I am the walrus.
Re: The Trailers Shown Before Other Movies Thread
The AMC website lists the Dolby showtimes separately from the regular showtimes. I believe that Dolby is an AMC thing only (the Dolby theater nearest to me used to be called "AMC Prime") I've never tried it, but I've heard it's pretty much the same as a regular movie, just louder.
It's not destroying. It's making something new.

Re: The Trailers Shown Before Other Movies Thread
It's not super different, but there's sound bars under all of the seats, so it makes certain scenes more immersive. For example in John Wick, the portion of the final battle at The Continental when Wick has the shotgun and armor-piercing bulletsbecame even wilder and more tense. I'm not likely to see a ton of stuff in the format, but it would certainly enhance any title that has huge action scenes.Screen203 wrote:The AMC website lists the Dolby showtimes separately from the regular showtimes. Re: The Trailers Shown Before Other Movies Thread
They’re different. It’s one screen in a theater devoted to Dolby. One of our theaters has like 14 regular screens an IMAX, and a Dolby. Showtimes can be in 3D or 2D. (Around here at least) The Dolby is better than IMAX. Contrast, brightness, clearer audio, moving audio. John Wick was super enhanced by this, especially the concussions the seat gives off. Recliner seats, clear sight lines (no tall dudes head in your line of vision) because they’re more stepped, you don’t share armrests.BanksIsDaFuture wrote:How do you guys find out which screenings are in dolby? In Indianapolis there are five AMCS and only three Dolby screens.
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.

Thanks guys I didn’t know it was amc exclusive. Just checked and none in the Raleigh area offer Dolby, which sucks.
Though I did find one has something called “Big D”, which is certainly suggestive

Before John Wick 3:
Hobbs & Shaw
Stuber
Crawl
It: Chapter 2
Anna
Angel Has Fallen
I saw it on a Harkins Cine1 screen. Which is basically the same as a Dolby Cinema (Atmos audio, improved resolution). The movie was insanely loud. I saw Captain Marvel, Shazam, Endgame and some other movies in that auditorium, and sound wise they were put to shame by this movie.

I'd make a reference to Kat Dennings but I will refrain.BanksIsDaFuture wrote:Thanks guys I didn’t know it was amc exclusive. Just checked and none in the Raleigh area offer Dolby, which sucks.

Big D is also owned by AMC, as they acquired that format when they bought Carmike. This is similar to AMC Prime (for some reason, AMC chose not to rebrand these when they were forced to rename the Carmikes AMC Classic).
Here's the entire premium large format game in a nutshell: https://www.movietickets.com/premium-large-format. Back home, the only one of these that's around is the Grand Screen but I never go there (too many mainstream movies and religious conversion flicks).

Trailers before Aladdin (2019) (3D) (Pre-screening! Yay!):
Lion King
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil
Toy Story 4 (Newest trailer)
Descendants 3 (which I thought was odd, since that's a TV movie, but I guess Disney wants to cross promote however they can)
Sidenote:
3D added nothing. Don't pay the extra $5
