Trailer: The Disaster Artist

Post by Buscemi »

What's this, a film directed by James Franco that might be good? Alright!

This could be absolutely hilarious, but could also become downright boring.

Trust me, nothing about the making of The Room is boring. That production was a comedy of errors.

I just finished reading the book this is based on and I'm not sure if Franco can top it. The book is alternately hilarious and terrifying (it's also non-linear). And I get the feeling Franco might have removed the best parts of the book: the chapters that focused on Tommy and Greg's relationship before making the film.

The castings are somewhat hit-or-miss. Seth Rogen's going to kill it as Sandy while I can't buy Zac Efron as an Armenian bobsledder. I do love the casting of Melanie Griffith as their acting coach though (so maybe some of those relationship sequences are still in the film).

I didn't realize that another trailer dropped last month.

There's some funny things in here but my main beef is that there are things here that didn't happen in the book (but I guess that's what happens when you get a pair of hacks to adapt the story). For example, it was Greg that had the relationship (which doesn't last) while Tommy can't talk to women without sounding like an ass. Also, Greg had to be guilt-tripped to do the film and only agreed to star just days before filming. Lastly, the book ends as The Room's first screening begins.
