I think this trailer was prepared at Comic-Con, which would explain the slow cuts and near four-minute length. There will probably be a shorter version done for theatres.
Anyway, I don't see why it looks so bad. It looks better than most of Val Kilmer's movies in the past five years (but then again, a lot of things are better than that) and Coppola is still better than many filmmakers today. Also a lot of this is inspired by Coppola's first film (Dementia 13), which depended more on atmosphere than jump scares.
