A feel-good version of The Social Network? And Jonah Hill can act?

Damn, I need subtitles, or to know what they are talking about
It looks like it could be a good film anyway.

the first half of the trailer looked really good. the second half seemed a bit too schmaltzy for me. Nevertheless, i would probably watch it now.

Bill James is the father of Sabermetrics, the method that Billy Beane used to build quality teams on a low price. His opinions and statistics are very interesting and after Beane began using James's method, other teams began using it and James got a management position with the Boston Red Sox.

Yeah, it's weird how quickly it changes tones halfway through.

And for some reason, I thought this movie was supposed to be set in the 80s?

No, it's the early 2000's. It's based on the book of the same name.

I'm surprised they don't mention Philip Seymour Hoffman's name in the trailer.

yea, there's a complete change of tactics halfway through, but maybe non-movie buffs wont notice it so much. and i also thought it was supposed to be set in the 80s or 70s.
