It looks very stuffy and small, almost like someone just filmed an elaborate stage production. Where's the massive scale of this strange world? Where's the cinema?

You're forgetting this is the same guy who felt shooting Les Miserables with handhelds was a good idea (during the peak of musicals, Les Mis would have easily been a 65mm production). Scale is not something Hooper is known for.
