Awww, damn. Great actor who threw everything he had into whatever role he played. Everyone remembers him as the drill instructor in Full Metal Jacket, but I think the first time I saw him in a movie was as a crooked businessman turned televangelist in Fletch Lives. Dude had a sense of humor all his own.

Harry Anderson, comedic actor and star of the 80's sitcom Night Court, passed away on 4/16 at the age of 65. He was also in Dave's World, appeared on Cheers a bunch of times, and was in the TV miniseries version of Stephen King's It in the 90's.

Just today, former first lady Barbara Bush passed at 92. Only the second person (after Abigail Adams) to have married a president and given birth to one. She and George also hold the record for the longest marriage by a President to a First Lady at 73 years (yes, even longer than Ron and Nancy).

Sad news.

Verne Troyer, the diminutive actor/comedian best known for playing Mini Me in the Austin Powers films, passed away Saturday (4/21) at the age of 49. He apparently battled alcoholism for years and was hospitalized a month before his death.

Troyer also appeared in films such as Jingle All the Way, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Run For the Money, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and The Love Guru.

Not really appropriate for this thread, but I just cut the Reel Society active member list from 160 down to 69. I eliminated all the spambots as well as any account whose name I didn't recognize and that hadn't posted in over four years. I left a few of our past regular intact despite their long absence.

So nearly 100 accounts are dead. So yeah, I guess it is appropriate.

I'm sure everyone knows by now that Stan Lee passed away.

What a life he led. A paragon of creativity. And a cool cool guy.

I think Nico said it, or quoted it, but there was no one else in any other medium that was as influential as he was to comic. Not even Spielberg for movies, or Bowie for music.

At least he lived to see the crazy impact his comics had.

Yep, here's what I Posted yesterday on FB:

Rick Cromack updated his profile picture.

It is entirely possible that no single man has ever towered over the creation, popularization, innovation, cultural impact, and legacy of an entire popular medium, so completely as Stan Lee suffuses that of comic books. He is greater in his craft than even Steven Spielberg is, in his. Than Muhammad Ali, in his. Than Steve Jobs, in his.

Stan Lee is the Albert Einstein of comics: His impact will never be matched, let alone, surpassed. He is quite simply a Titan.

Rest in peace.
I remain, as always.

Recent deaths;

George Bush, former President, 94. Not sure if he was ever in any movies, but all in all a good guy. Even now, I'd take him over the guy in the White House at the moment.

Ricky Jay, actor/magician, 74 - appeared in Boogie Nights, The Prestige, Tomorrow Never Dies

Bernardo Bertolucci, Italian director, 77 - directed The Last Emperor and Last Tango in Paris, among many others

Ken Berry, 85 - TV and movie actor, appeared in several Herbie movies and The Cat From Outer Space (one of my faves as a kid)
