Just saw this. This is not a name you'll recognize, but it's worth recognition for one very impressive fact.

Ruthie Thompson, who worked as an animator for Walt Disney, passed away on October 10. She was part of the team that brought us Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Sleeping Beauty, The Aristocats, The Rescuers, and Robin Hood.

Her age at time of death? 111.

ONE. HUNDRED. AND. ELEVEN.

Wow.

Buried in the news of the Cardinals firing Mike Shildt, I saw that former catcher and broadcaster Ray Fosse passed away last night. You might know him as the victim of this incident.

Did anyone see that Alec Baldwin accidentally killed the cinematographer of a movie he was making yesterday afternoon?

Yeah we're all talking about it at work.

Initial thought was that it's an accident due to over-working crew (which is why they wanted to strike, and rightfully so).

But now it seems that union armoury professionals weren't used - that's what the union are saying.

So non-union armourers or perhaps amateurs were being used. Which means the producers will go down for this.

I had a feeling this was a non-union production, as it was being produced by independents in New Mexico and the production company's other projects were similarly-made projects made in states where it's easy to get away with anything.

I'm also wondering why a live round was being used in the first place. That alone seems like a recipe for disaster.

All this makes me think of the death of Sarah Jones, in which the producer/director of the film she was working on (that was never finished, of which I'm expecting a similar result here) ended up getting some jail time over the whole situation.

The LA Times just released a story stating that 6 union members of the camera crew walked off the set yesterday morning after dealing with 3 separate gun misfiring-related incidents in the past 2 weeks and other questionable working conditions (long hours, paychecks not coming through on time, the production getting them hotel rooms an hour away from where they were shooting in Santa Fe). Just awful greed and negligence from that production.

I know I'm the only UB40 fan in this place, but I'll relay this anyway.

Astro, the singer and percussionist from the reggae group passed away on 11/6 at the age of 64.

If you've heard the long version of "Red Red Wine", he's the vocalist who takes over for Ali Campbell near the end of the song.

This song made my Top 10 of all time ten years ago. He starts singing at the 3:00 mark.

This comes four months after the band's sax player, Brian Travers (whose hand I shook after a concert) passed from brain cancer.

Character actor Art LaFleur passed away at 78. You might remember him as Babe Ruth in The Sandlot, among many other films.
