Leonard Cohen, one of the greatest solo artists in the history of music, has passed away at the age of 82, having just released his 14th album.

When we did our #100 songs of all time, hos Famous Blue Raincoat was in my Top 5.

Well, the Cubans in Miami cheered when they learned of his death. The guy killed and jailed millions of political prisoners and kept people in poverty while amassing almost a billion dollars personally. I'm not sure how it is now, but people are not allowed to leave the country. People who leave for another country aren't called emigrants there, they are called "defectors".

https://www.amnesty.org/en/countries/am ... port-cuba/ Cuba has not allowed Amnesty International access since 1990.

People that like Castro are people that love that he "stood up against The United States". Or they're people with socialist beliefs that praise many of his programs like free healthcare, but forget the atrocities, imprisonment, and all around fear he caused. I believe he was a bad man.

Read this article by quite possibly my favorite sports writer who's parents fled Cuba. It's not about the death of Castro. It's about the beginning of the normalization and a baseball game played during the weekend that was attended by Obama and other US dignitaries: http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-c ... 92347.html

Read articles, tweets, posts, etc from most any Cuban who is not still under the tyranny and is allowed to speak freely. You should be able to make your mind up pretty quick.

Looks like Carrie Fisher didn't survive her heart attack. We are without our Leia.

2016 is determined to get its last few deaths in before it ends.

Just came through on the IMDb wire:

Ricky Harris, 53, starred in the TV shows "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Moesha" and the movie "Poetic Justice."

Liz Smith, 95, star of "The Royle Family" and appeared in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".

Richard Adams, 96, penned the classic novel "Watership Down".

Watership Down may just be my favorite novel of all time. It heavily influenced me as a writer. That one really, really, stings.

And our final celebrity casualty of 2016, a year when we lost so many, was William Christopher, best known for his role as Father Mulcahy on M*A*S*H. He passed away on 12/31 at 84.

Thank goodness, 2017 isn't starting off like last year, with a rash of tragic celebrity deaths.

However, one had to go eventually.

Miguel Ferrer, from TV shows Crossing Jordan and NCIS: Los Angeles (I first remember him as the jerk executive in Robocop), passed away from cancer at 61.

I was a huge fan of Crossing Jordan a decade ago. Miguel was fantastic in his role.

Bill Paxton died earlier this morning from complications after a surgery.

I can't say anything.

Paxton's death was basically the first thing I heard when I woke up this morning. For whatever reason, his performance in Club Dread is the one I remember most vividly. RIP Coconut Pete.

Robert Osborne has passed away at 84. If you've ever watched Turner Classic Movies, he was usually the guy who introduced the movies (though in recent years, Ben Mankiewicz had been introducing most of the films). He also worked for The Hollywood Reporter and did a mix of reporting and introductions on The Movie Channel before TCM hired him in 1994. He did some acting as well (working with Lucille Ball and having an appearance on the very first episode of The Beverly Hillbillies).

Turner Classic Movies is going to be a different place without Robert.
